Could another writers strike be imminent?

That could mean more "reality" shows. God help us.

These garbage "reality" shows seem to proliferate the sub-nets and not the primary OTA channels. That's fine. Keep 'em there. The originals - Survivor, Big Brother, The Great Race (which are essential game shows) are still on the big channels.

Fixed it for you.

I watched The Amazing Race faithfully for about four seasons. I found it fascinating to see all of
the places they'd go to.

But by season five they had already gone pretty much everyplace on Earth where it's safe to travel as an American, and began repeating locations. Have not paid much attention since.

My wife was a big fan initially so I watched 2 or 3 with her back then. Very repetitious and way too much verbal hysterics. It was too much like Jerry Springer. Haven't watched it since.

Call me an old fogey if you want, but I haven't found a single reality show that I find engaging. I have tried...

Part of the problem is that they are all fake "reality"...contrived "reality"...or something of that nature.

Before I cut the cord, I had a brief interest in "Deadliest Catch," and my elderly mom and dad watched "Pawn Stars" religiously for a few years, but reality TV isn't on any our must-see lists anymore. But yes, someone -- a whole lot of someones -- in this nation must eat all that stuff up. It's just that nobody on this board seems to have any of them in their circles. Odd.

I was visiting a friend the other day. He was watching a reality show on a cable channel about people from the Florida Everglades who spent their time out on fan boats catching gators and frogs. I like to watch quirky people as much as anyone, so it seems like this show should have been interesting, but it was excruciatingly dull.

I think we must be The Fogey Brothers. Hey! Perhaps that would make a good "reality" channel - like the two old guys in the balcony at the Muppets.

They're called airboats. You will also find them in the bayous of Louisiana.

The possible writers' strike could be a much-needed shot in the arm for the WWE; its ratings for "Monday Night Raw" have plummeted since both the last strike ("Smackdown", at the time, was about to move from CW to MyNetworkTV) and the downgrade from TV-14 to TV-PG, despite the usual bump prior to and after Wrestlemania.

Impact Wrestling (then on Spike during the last strike, now on Pop) could also benefit from the strike...as well as Canada! So the biggest beneficiaries in the end could be Netflix, Hulu, Jeff Bezos, Vince McMahon, Justin Trudeau, and #45.

yeah, Impact Wrestling (formerly TNA Wrestling until March of this year when it's parent company officially banished the TNA name as the name itself was very dated as that was so 2002 and also the tainted legacy of the company too that had a epic downfall shortly after losing Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff who left in 2013 to 2014 respectfully and the fact they were canceled by Spike for poor ratings and TNA's then owner Dixie Carter lying about a writer name Vince Russo (who wrote horrible angles and storylines in early Attitude Era WWE and was sort of responsible for the huge downfall of WCW in 1999-2001 that lead to it being bought out by WWE and folded shorty after, and he also wrote for TNA for years before leaving then he returned to TNA secretly and Viacom who owns Spike did not want him back and had decided he returning was the final straw for TNA) and then after they moved to Destination America only to have Dixie tick off the guy in charge of the Discovery Networks owned channel in a e-mail that was meant for someone else that ended up being sent to him, and TNA was scapegoated off the network even with the Network going as far as making a deal with ROH to air it's weekly syndicated show on Destination America before and after TNA only to drop the early airing and then dropped then after they dropped TNA too, and now TNA's on Pop TV and struggling and they almost went broke to the point they were almost sold to Smashing Pumpkins lead singer Billy Corgan only for him to get screwed out and then was sold to Anthem instead causing a lawsuit that was quickly settled, and then earlier this year, they let the Hardys (who were the hottest act in TNA with the "Broken Hardys" angle) leave TNA cause they couldn't agree to a new contract and they let them leave while they were still TNA World Tag Team champs. and to ad insult to injury, the Hardys and TNA had developed a legal matter over the "Broken Hardys" gimmick and since then Matt and Jeff Hardy showed up in ROH and won their tag team titles, and then at WrestleMania, the Hardys returned to WWE as a surprise 4th team in a match originally a triple threat tag team ladder match turned into a fatal 4 way tag team ladder match in which the Hardys won the WWE Raw Tag Team championship and they since been on the Raw brand of the WWE as WWE brought the brand extension concept of two different rosters for their two main WWE TV shows last summer) is gonna still struggle to get fans being on Pop and not being as good as they used to be.

Man, that's a mouthful (forgot Anthem, who currently owns Impact Wrestling)!!

And back to Canada a bit: "True Blood's" Anna Paquin was back with a new series called "Bellevue" on CBC; the possible strike may help them find a U.S. home on DirecTV, Hulu, or Amazon.

The Associated Press, April 24, 2017 11:33 PM EDT

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Members of the Writers Guild of America are one step closer to striking come May 2. In a letter to its members Monday, the WGA said 96.3 percent voted to authorize a strike as the May 1 contract expiration deadline looms. Negotiations between the Guild and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers will resume Tuesday.

Responding to the strike authorization, the producers group said in a statement that it is committed to reaching a deal that keeps the industry working.

WOW! That is one long run-on sentence.

You are spot-on about Vince Russo. He's the worst thing to ever happen to the industry. I can't blame Jim Cornette for hating Russo. But with Jeff Jarrett back in Impact Wrestling will Russo be far behind? I hope not.

Funny thing is, Jarrett has more old-school bona fides than just about anyone. His father Jerry was co-owner of the late, great Memphis promotion. And really, I liked his singer/wrestler persona a whole lot better than the Honky Tonk Man's -- loved Tennessee Lee (Robert Fuller in Col. Tom Parker mode) introducing him as "the world's greatest singer, the world's greatest wrestler. J-E-Double F J-A-Double R-E-Double T ... Jeff Jarrett!" Why do you think he's going to bring Vince Russo with him?
