Louisville Winter 2017 Ratings

Thoughts. SFR is killin QMF. Clearly what qmf is doin isnt working. Glad to see B 96.5 killin 93.1 the beat. The beat was a huge mistake and 93.1 must be blown up bk into rock. The beat is terrible. B 96 keep kickin there butt. I think it is time to blow up 100.5 into something else. DJX doin nicely against radio now.

Other thoughts...

QMF needs to go new and classic rock. 107.7 obviously has the classic rock audience captured. Drop the stale Bob and Tom show, and go local. AMZ has slid in a huge way. Also, as Patrick said, 100.5 is a waste of a huge stick.

These results make me smile. Is that an all-time high for SFR? That has to really irk WQMF. I hope heads role soon. I live in southern Indiana and used to listen to Louisville stations (WQMF/ 100.5 WTFX). I cannot remember the last time I listened to a Louisville station longer than two songs.

In looking around at other markets, it appears Country is on a downward slide nationwide. I guess Louisville is not immune to the trend.

But i bet country does better in louisville then some markets for the most popular music formats in louisville are classic rock and country. Sure b nice if louisville got a current rock station. In my opinion blow up 93.1 or 100.5 or 105.1

Time will tell.

Some thoughts:

Does 970 WGTK not even make these ratings? I would have imagined they would do much better that KJK, which i can barely get to begin with in parts of the area.

SFR has changed nothing in 20 years as far as a playlist and they are #2..lol

Wild seeing WAMZ not in the top 2.

I'm sure IHeartRadio are pleased with 93.1, 98.9 and 100.5. 93.1 and 98.9 aren't major competitors in the market but they are doing well enough to keep WDJX and WGZB out of the #1 spot and 100.5 is doing some damage to 102.3. Now, IHeart radio has a new guy to worry about with the growth WSFR. I wouldn't be surprise if WQMF returns to it's old Classic Rock format.

If Alpha Media really wants to be the urban specialist in this market, then it would be nice if they would try something besides hip hop on 105.1. The market is over-saturated with hip hop. Urban Gospel is a format that reaches the plus adult women and usually does well when it is programmed with a solid music format. WLOU and WLLV have received great numbers when their format was focused on urban gospel music. Now, WLOU sounds like a mess since they are mixing gospel, r&b, jazz and brokered talk programming. WLLV is mostly brokered-preaching programming. WLOU and WLLV are both vulnerable and Urban Gospel audience are under-served.

Salem Communications only subscribes a few of their stations to Nielsen. They usually subscribe their high-rated Christian AC stations like KLTY in Dallas and WFSH in Atlanta but not their talk stations.

Not quite related to the ratings (since WAKY isn't included in them), but I didn't feel this warranted a new thread... has WAKY expanded their definition "classic hits?" I heard a Sheryl Crow song ("All I Wanna Do") from the mid-90s on there earlier tonight. I thought they'd changed formats, but no, sure enough, they were back to what I would expect them to play a few minutes later. I haven't listened much more since hearing it, so I don't know how common this is, but it was definitely odd to hear on WAKY.

I'm not necessarily against such an expansion, in fact I'd much rather hear 90s stuff on there than the true oldies that they play on weekends, but it just seemed bizarre and out of place considering I'd never heard anything like that on there before.

Classic hits stations are consistently revising their lists, removing the weaker and older songs and adding, every year, a few newer ones. The idea is not to age with the audience but remain targeted on age groups advertisers want to attract.

.

<insert sarcastic font here> You are wrong. They have added 20-25 songs in the past twenty years. Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Rick Springfield, Outfield, and recently a few hair band songs. Sooooo much change. LOL
