Spike to become The Paramount Network

Viacom CEO Bob Bakish is set to reveal “a new strategic vision and framework” for the struggling company tomorrow. And while he had singled out Paramount Pictures and MTV as the primary focus of the turnaround efforts, there will be a change at another Viacom network, Spike, which is expected to be renamed The Paramount Network.

The pending name change will give Viacom a film studio (Paramount Pictures), TV production company (Paramount TV) and TV network (The Paramount Network) sharing the famous moniker, just like former corporate sibling CBS Corp. has the CBS broadcast network, CBS TV Studios and CBS Films.

So Spike has been a definitely male-driven channel. Will this change? I predict it will, but I have nothing to base this on. But common sense would trend toward more of a female-based target.

My, how this network has gone places since TNN/The Nashville Network...
Female-based? Lots of female bartenders screwing up on Bar Rescue perhaps. I occasionally watch Jon Taffer blow up at a horrific bartender, but otherwise Spike is off my channel list. They haven't been a great channel in years.

Remember when Spike was supposed to be "Television for Men"?

When I first heard that I thought "What, like Lifetime, but for guys?"

Coming up next, Andrew Dice Clay stars as a divorce lawyer who never loses a case in.....

I think the rebrand doesn't happen until the start of 2018 from wiki. I was never a fan of TNN would they changed it to The National Network in 2000 when they signed with WWE for RAW that was lame was glad when they rebranded to Spike which was a better problem with TNN I thought too much country with the name and brand.

And will Paramount carry either Impact Wrestling or a Billy Corgan-owned NWA on their schedule?

It's obvious you're a fan of non-WWE wrestling, but the truth about these other promotions is that they are blips on the national radar. Why would you think a rebranded Spike would be interested in either?
