Spanish Music on 100.9

Who's playing Spanish Music on 100.9 FM? My Mom and I were picking up a friend on Norton Street (Route 10) in the Milldale Section of Southington and I picked up a strong (but still staticy) signal on 100.9 playing Spanish Music.

I know of WKNL 100.9 in New London which is Classic Hits. I know of WRNX 100.9 in Amherst which is Country. I know of 100.9 The Beat in New Haven (COL = Millbrook) which is Hip-Hop/R&B. When I got home I checked at the stream of 100.9 The Beat and it is still playing Hip-Hop/R&B.

Could I-Heart have been testing the new translator that's going to be used for WPOP 1410? If they are why would they be playing Spanish Music?

As the folks in Boston are seeing with the canned Irish format on WRCA's new translator, any kind of placeholder programming can be used while the equipment is being adjusted/tested. So maybe it is a new iHeart translator. It also could be tropo or E-skip (did you and mom hear any other unusual FM signals?) or a pirate.

Sorry for the duplicate posts. I see other people are having this problem in multiple forums, so I guess it's just the board software acting squirrelly.

100.9 Bridgeport Christian Latin

I thought Latin was only used in Catholic services, but not in non-Catholic Christian rites.

100.9 Bridgeport Christian Latin

Is that a pirate? I don't see anything on that freq in Bridgeport on Radio-Locator. Legal or illegal, Bridgeport to Southington is a long haul for a low-power signal, and Marc says he wasn't hearing anything else unusual on FM that day.

Maybe Irish will be the Final format in Boston's WRCA.

I don't know about 100.9, but I do know about 103.5. I always get interference from them while listening to WDRC-FM 102.9 of Hartford. It's usually on Capitol Avenue, very near where the Sisson Avenue on/off ramps pass over the road.

If you Google 100.9 Bridgeport Its Radio Unidad{Mark's Spanish) identified as Christian Latin

I presume that you mean "Spanish Language Christian". It does not broadcast in Latin at all, according to all the web references.

Seventh Google hit down:

Connecticut Christian Radio Stations - Contemporary, Traditional ...
https://www.christart.com/radio/connecticut/
Bridgeport WFAR - 104.9 FM Christian Contemporary · www.radiofamili... Bridgeport WRUD - 100.9 FM Christian Latin · www.radiounidad... listen.

Not one of the big radio sites, granted, but the format description does exist. Of course, Latin is shorthand for Latin American or Latino, as I'm sure you must surmise.

"Latin" is either the language of the Roman Empire or a reference to things of or pertaining to the nations where the language spoken today is a derivative of Latin: France, Spain, Portugal, Italy and Romania.

"Latino" of course pertains to Latin America, which includes speakers of Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Papiamento and various other tongues and dialects.

I was just spoofing the OP since "Latin" does not correctly or specifically describe a Spanish-language religious station.

The WFAR repeater on 104.9 in Bridgeport hasn't existed in years. John Fuller bought it and boost the signal on it and put BOMBA on it. That's why WFAR is on WMRQ 104.1 HD3. Not to mention most of WFAR's programming is in Portuguese. People complained it was interfering with WIHS Middletown, CT so working with WIHS Fuller moved it to 104.5

Mystery Spanish Station on 100.9 - It's BOMBA-FM

Okay. We were in the same area again this morning and I checked 100.9 and I heard the BOMBA-FM ID. Just strange because BOMBA-FM does not have a station on 100.9 FM, so the mystery continues.

BOMBA-FM is on 97.1 in Greater Hartford (Licensed to Bolton), 98.5 in Meriden, 99.5 in Waterbury (licensed to Clinton), and 104.5 in Bridgeport, New London, and West Springfield. Plus on 104.1 HD2/HD4, 106.5 HD4, and 1490AM.

Sounds like Bomba has an admirer -- who owns a transmitter!

BTW, Lisa on WNTY/W241CG gave you a shout-out yesterday! She read a tweet you sent her about Connecticut's proposed sugary-drink surcharge around 3 p.m. Did you hear it?
