Game Show Revivals

We have had all these game show revivals lately - Match Game, To Tell The Truth, The Gong Show, Love Connecticut, Pyramid, etc. (I won't watch the Match Game revival because I can't stand Alec Baldwin). Are there any game shows you would like to see revived? I have 2.

1. Concentration
2. Scrabble
I'd love Concentration, but I'm not sure it could be made to work in today's environment. (Granted, panel show To Tell the Truth made it--to the regular season schedule this fall, no less), but there was enough elasticity in the format to make it more comedy oriented and faster paced. Match Game kept the basic format nearly intact, but it was never about the game anyway--the game is just a setup for the comedy.

The original 1960s Match Game was much more about the game than the '70s version was. The interesting thing is that Gene Rayburn hosted both, incorporating a lot more innuendo into his performance in the latter.

While I give credit to GSN for not completely getting rid of the classics, I hate to say it "Match Game" was hit or miss in the 70's looking back. Half the time the celebrities looked like they didn't want to be there. As noted from some sources, these panelists were usually half-tanked. So be it.

The Newlywed Game revival was OK, but not nearly as fun as the original with the one and only Bob Eubanks.

Some I would like to see again either original or revived: The Dating Game, Hollywood Squares, and...well that is about it. If pushed, perhaps Tattletales.

The Dating Game,
Singled Out,
Tic-Tack-Dough,
Deal Or No Deal kinda surprise that hasn't comeback come on GSN or NBC bring it back,
High Rollers.

Actually, "Deal Or No Deal" (repeats) has been a staple on GSN middays for several months. It can be entertaining for short periods of time...of course they keep teasing you to stay tuned.

There's a sort-of Hollywood Squares in the form of Hip Hop Squares. Not a bad update to the format.

Beat Shazam sounds like it could be a modern riff on Name That Tune, so we'll see how that goes.

Tic Tac Dough was mentioned elsewhere. Probably suffers from the same problems Joker's Wild does (though even more restrictive). Slow by today's standards, though perhaps workable if an innovative person got hold of it. Millionaire is one question at a time, but is able to add tension and interaction with the host in a way none of the Barry and Enright stable of near-identical shows did in their original incarnations.

Tattletales could work in an age of gossip, but like Match Game, it would need to adjust for where "the line" is today and pick up the pace a bit. (The other side: there's little we don't already know in this E!/TMZ/ET/Extra/etc. age.)

I have a hard time understanding why either 'Joker's Wild' or 'Tic Tac Dough' would be considered 'slow'. I think a straight up revival of either show, with a host as good as Martindale was might have a chance, but good timeslots are hard to come by. Perhaps in daytime? I'd prefer 'Joker's' of the two.

Wait, you mean Love Connection (rebooted on FOX)? Is that what you meant? If it was, then autocorrect is maybe to blame. "Darn you, autocorrect!"

Yeah. It was auto-correct. I hate autocorrect. Never had to deal with it til I bought a damn smart phone 4 months ago. The name Trish autocorrects to Trash. The name Robbie Autocorrects to Ronnie.

How about Card Sharks, that one hasn't been mentioned.

I watched "Concentration" in the days of Hugh Downs and later with Jack Narz. After 13 years, they revealed some secret about how the board worked or something, and they were going to wait 13 more years to tell us the next secret. Alex Trebek hosted a newer version but I couldn't watch it with the annoying sound effects.
