2 Boston AM's for sale

According to a broker's listing issued today, there are 2 "Boston" AM stations for sale, apparently without translators. Says the owner wishes to "exit the market". Any ideas?

and if it were MRBI's properties, they are worth nothing.

Neither one has a tower they own, they bill next to nothing, and WAZN was purchased for a lot of money then had a ton thrown into it to move the C.O.L. to Watertown and the move of the transmitter to Salem's tower in Lexington.

WLYN's tower is ancient, it is in the middle of a junk yard.... where if they stack the cars too close to the tower it kills the signal, the ground radials were compromised at some point and repaired..... and since MRBI does not own it, and there is a co-located AM on the same stick, I doubt there is any serious maintenance happening over there.

Somewhere in NYC ( or is it NJ, MRBI had to sell its offices as part of the financial disaster they got themselves into) Arthur Liu must be wondering what the hell went wrong..... if they had managed to hang on to WMFP and held it long enough to sell it in the spectrum auction as the current owners just did, he would be on easy street.

I thought so at first too, until I saw "owned transmitter site." Usually that site exaggerates coverage. So maybe something like WCRN? I have no idea if they own their site or not, just a random guess.

Does Salem own the swamp in Quincy where 1260 is located? Or maybe 1430? Since 1430 powers down at night, and aims at the fishes, that might explain the "excellent day coverage" comment.

My new guess is 1120-Concord.

That is a Barry Armstrong owned station isn't it?

The Money Matters website for 1120 says it is also broadcast on 102.9 in Boston.

The only 102.9 that isn't a LPFM is Costa-Eagle up in Lawrence and they are not doing financial programs trust me

Everything else I see is a LPFM and that rules out commercial rebroadcast doesn't it?

"Money Matters features programs on WBNW AM 1120 and FM 102.9 in Concord and Boston. Bringing you financial information and business news from across .."

Only possibility would be that MM somehow does a show on the City Of Boston-owned WBCA-LP, a talk show but no
commercials.Otherwise he's lying about 102.9.Noted btw that the Concord station runs the syndie Imus, Red Eye Radio, and John Batchelor shows.
Also re a Boston AM Dennis DeNapoli claimed on the I Love AM Radio group that 1510 got new owners who paid $175k (same price Daly LLC had paid) and got "lower tower rent".Don't know if that's true..someone desperate enough to buy a station but no tower, one that could be a money pit...?

The Boston news talk listed had asking price of $1.1 million...Doubt it's WMEX..as for 2 AMs.1200 or 1430...? Neither has a trasnslator tho 1200 is on 94.5 HD2 And "wants to exit the market"? iHeart plans to stay (94.5, 101.7, 107.9) I'd think.

I doubt that Salem would want to sell 1260. As to 1430, iHeart needs to keep it, in order to clear the failing-in-Boston Rush Limbaugh show.

I also saw on there... Massachusetts AM Southeastern Mass AM with good coverage into 2 small cities. Good day power,
low nights but excellent candidate for FM Translator (FMt). Some RI coverage. $220,000

Could that be 1530 WVBF?

1120 WBNW has a 102.9 translator in Concord, W275CM, though it now shows on FCCInfo with a D in front indicating deleted. 102.9 has become a very crowded frequency.

Someone had a CP for a translator and let it go into D status?

Remind me not to invest any money with Barry Armstrong..... how stupid can you be !

most of these little AM's are worth next to nothing ( 175K for 1510 2 years ago ring a bell?) , if they own the stick they are worth a little something, especially if you can get a cell tower on it, or a commercial service repeater.... or you can tear the tower down, give the license to a non profit, and build houses or commercial real estate on the land.... but a translator is worth something by itself or as an incremental benefit.

And it got deleted ? WTF.

Looks like they let it slip through the cracks and are trying to get it back. From the license's latest application:

Exhibit 1
Description: REQUEST TO EXCUSE LATE FILING

ON NOVEMBER 15, 2016 THE FCC GRANTED TOLLING, EFFECTIVE NOVEMBER 7, 2016, OF THE EXPIRATION OF THE CONSTRUCTION PERMIT OF W275CM, SARANAC LAKE, NY, FAC. ID.138293, CONTINGENT ON THE CONSUMMATION OF THE ASSIGNMENT OF THE TRANSLATOR, BAPFT 20160729ACC, FOR AN ADDITIONAL 6 MONTHS.

THE TRANSLATOR WAS CONSUMMATED ON NOVEMBER 10, 2016.

BECAUSE NO LICENSE TO COVER THE CP WAS FILED, THE CP EXPIRED ON APRIL 10, 2017 AND WAS CANCELLED.

HOWEVER, THE LICENSEE ACTUALLY BUILT THE TRANSMITTER AND BEGAN OPERATING IT ON DECEMBER 8, 2017 BUT FAILED TO REALIZE THAT IT HAD TO FILE A LICENSE TO COVER THE CONSTRUCTION PERMIT. SEE ATTACHED INVOICE FROM HAMPDEN COMMUNICATIONS CORP, WHO INSTALLED THE EQUIPMENT, DATED 12/12/16 AND THE CONTEMPORANEOUS LOG OF THE STATION ENGINEER, DATED 12/8/16, MEMORIALIZING THE INITIATION OF OPERATION OF THE TRANSLATOR.

THE LICENSEE DID NOT INFORM EITHER ITS COMMUNICATIONS COUNSEL OR CONSULTING ENGINEER AND THE OPERATION WAS ONLY DISCOVERED IN THE LAST FEW DAYS.

THE LICENSEE GREATLY REGRETS IT'S ERROR IN NOT TIMELY FILING THE LICENSE APPLICATION PRIOR TO INITIATING OPERATION.

SHOULD ANY QUESTIONS ARISE, PLEASE CONTACT THE LICENSEE.
