LA 106.3 KXOR Death Watch

That's the 100k question as new rock has basically disappeared from South Louisiana except a Beaumont rimshot and 106.1. I'm surprised the people who are buying 96.7 and 1490 didn't buy the whole load though. Wish I knew it was on market, but still probably wouldn't have been able to get enough capitalisation and liquidity unless I won the lotto lol.
But think we may stay listening to distant classic rockers for a while though. As I don't see anyone flipping format and one station I would have suspected to be built out as a rim shot to Houma (106.9), will be religious so....
 
You know, the FCC still has to approve the sale of KXOR 106.3 to EMF. With the construction permit, KNOL 107.5 (K-Love) should be able to reach Houma. The FCC could possibly reject the sale, and if that happens KXOR stays rock. But if KXOR does switch to K-Love, then either 94.9 or 96.7 (or possibly 97.7) will have to switch formats. 94.9 and 97.7 are both country stations. If you remember back in 1998, they moved KXOR to Houma to be in the same studios as KCIL. Since both of those stations were country, one would have to change format in order to avoid competing with one another. I suspect it will be the same deal between 94.9 and 96.7 now that they might be co-owned. Could we see the return of Top 40 (Power 96.7)? Could it be Rock 96.7? Even 97.7 needs to change format from their tired "soft rock" format. Only time will tell.
 
94.9 and 96.7 changing formats? NOT HAPPENING! Gumbo 949 is classic country C967 is modern/contemporary country. Both are pulling in Great Numbers and making money. Stations to watch are 97.7 and 640/103.7. I do hope the fcc denies sale of KXOR, but they don't care about two stations broadcasting the same format rimshot of each other. By the way the Prevost Street studio/Office is already on the real estate market.

Perhaps there has been a misunderstanding. 94.9 and 96.7 could merge becoming a country station with both contemporary and classic country. One station would stay country while the other switches to something else. When 96.7 was owned by Sunburst, they made Bobby Richard go to 94.9. But now that 94.9 and 96.7 are co-owned, Richard could either stay at 94.9 or move back to 96.7. I also believe that the sale of KXOR to EMF falls through. But regardless of if the KXOR sale falls through or not, 97.7 does need to change from its "soft rock" format. Also, what would become of KJIN 1490 AM?
 
That's why I said the stations to watch are KDLC 97.7 and KTIB 640/103.7. KJIN will stay oldies according to the owners for now but hopefully when Gumbo, Sunny, C967, and Oldies1490 move to their new building they can get a better stl link. still has that static hiss on 1490.
 
Almost forgot Bobby was forced out at the same time one of the bosses at Sunburst in Dallas decreed that one of the stations would be a Spanish outlet regardless of the local culture. 96.7 was what they were looking to change until they found out 107.5 could move to N.O. not 96.7. I understood what you are getting at, But why change what is popular and makes money. That's why I said 97.7 and when KTIB finished the repairs to both AM and FM they are the stations to watch.
 
Wait a minute, do you mean KTIB has to repair its AM/FM signals? Perhaps KTIB is trying to improve its reach in this area. Of course, both the deals with the KXOR sale to EMF and the KCIL/KJIN sale to Coast Radio Group must still be approved by the FCC (and FCC can reject the deals). I still hope the KXOR sale to EMF falls through. Still, 97.7 needs to ditch its "soft rock" (either rock or Top 40).
 
According to Ms. Linda at KTIB The boss at gap came to visit the station and told them to put the translator on the air, however they did not have all the equipment yet. That's why the sound is muffeled and in Mono. Hopefully it should be fixed later this month. I am guessing you mean the Houma Thibodaux area. The translator is on the same stick as gumbo 94.9 at 250 watts less than a mile from the old KXOR tower where KTLN is at the same power, besides Yesterday I was receiving KTIB's 103.7 signal down in Port Fourchon. KJIN/KCIL is already a done deal, but I do agree with you about KXOR and tell them not going to happen, but I won't bet on it. My question is knowing EMF reputation what will the new Call letters will be for 106.3?

1490 and 96.7 have been under a lma since mid March, so no matter what gumbo and c96.7 will be in same house unless sale doesn't go thru and a new buyer doesn't want them to be cozy like that.
It's gonna be owned by relatives of southeastern and is how their properties are set up in coastal Mississippi.
Surprised someone like Truck didn't pick it up unless he didn't know it was for sale. As mysteriously nobody said crap till the filings.
Waiting myself to see as emf has a good business going buying and selling such as flipping off 91.9, now buying 2 stations from same people (107.5 and 106.3) ... was thinking today how hard it would be to get a station proposed sited here in area, or translator the area. As a good tower and 250 watts does wonders (as metarie translators come in a little too well on the bayou imo).

But no the cash cows are 94.9 and 96.7 imo and with country music starting to fracture on the pop country/traditional lines like other formats, I don't see that changing. Stations to watch would be 1490, ktib, and sunny 97.7
 
Thanks to RFLA for texting me the info that Sunny 97.7 flipped to Classic Rock yesterday and 106.3 KXOR Is off the air. K-love could be on when 106.3 returns.
 
On a skip but not all the time. 106.1's Transmitter and tower are on the North Shore somewhere just north of Abita Springs with makes it a rimshot to the city.
 
I am relieved that the rock is still in this area after 106.3 switched to K-Love (rats, was hoping the FCC would block that). Two suggestions, though, for Rock 97.7: 1) Play more 80s hair bands, and 2) How about some weekend syndicated programming like LA 106.3 used to have (e.g., "Live in Concert" on Saturday, "Time Warp" on Sunday night).
 
Called the station yesterday and they told me that shows are in the works. New deals and contracts for the old shows on KXOR must be made and signed for KDLC as the contracts are non-transferable. Oh By the way Rob did you get the e-mail for KTIB.

Wow, rest in peace radio. Sunny 97.7 has been on since 2011 and in only 6 years it is dead. And now KXOR, which has been there since 1979, sold and flipped to a Religious format.

This is disastrous. I think the only Louisiana market that is doing good is Lafayette.

KDLC has been cped since 2011,but only got on air late 2013 but actually 2014. As a cp farmer had it before it was almost ready to expire and sold it to the Dowdy's .. It was originally set up as a small class A. But got built up to a C1 on their own tower at the end of Theriot

Sunny had some listeners but think it was a distant 4th in the local market. with KXOR gone, they own the rock market... agree it pisses me off that no one local got a chance to pick up kxor, but figured guy who owned it wanted quick buck and flip, as a partner he flipped 107.5 to them (EMF) a few years earlier.

Many have said that either rock 97.7 better grow up and get with the listeners (dont care what you say about streaming etc... many blue collars will still use a radio, (espcially if they pay for data) and get with the real listeners to aim for..25-54.. get newer acts like KXOR (My vote is current like 97.9 WCPR which is doing damn good in Dowdy's home market against them)as what they got right now is cookie cutter classic rock say in 2000, not now. Nirvana is being played on classic rock, but not on 97.7.. I see ratings in toilet and rest of cluster stringing this one along unless they get a real Music Director.

But that just my opinion
