Yes, but it's on the line with Southbury on I-84 (over the Housatonic River). They could get WVIT-TV over the air.

WVIT-TV is licensed to New Britain, has a West Hartford studio and a transmitter on Rattlesnake Mountain near US Route 6 in Farmington. That's a bit west of Hartford.

WNBC-TV (NBC) channel 4 of New York City, also an NBC O&O, is airing the show. My relative, despite living here in Hartford County gets WNBC with their Frontier service, in the clear and no blackouts.

Also, WVIT (and the other Hartfords [even WTIC!]) are on cable in Newtown as well.
 
Correct. I believe their prior owner was Viacom. That may explain their call letters (Viacom International Television?).

Although I can't do so in my part of Connecticut, some viewers in and north of Hartford can also receive WWLP-TV (NBC) channel 22 from Springfield, MA.

I'm trying to think of the last time there was this type of preemption in Hartford/New Haven which wasn't due to weather. Hmmm! (But not to the point that this thread goes off topic!)

ABC was the easiest because we could get WBBJ 7 in Jackson, TN and KAIT 8 in Jonesboro, AR. We could get CBS from KFVS 12 in Cape Girardeau, MO and NBC from WPSD 6 in Paducah, KY. Also, My grandmother and later my brother had cable in Dyersburg, TN, and KFVS and WPSD were on Cable One there. Later when I changed jobs, got married, and moved to the Jackson, TN area Charter carried WSMV NBC 4 and WTVF CBS 5 from Nashville. There was no alternative for Fox besides WHBQ 13 in Memphis until WJKT 16 in Jackson picked them up when UPN and WB merged and became CW, and WJKF went to Fox.

Seemed to me that WPSD was always more pre-emption-happy than the Memphis stations ever were. I remember having to watch St. Elsewhere over channel 5 when 6 pre-empted it with, of all things, a rodeo! They once pre-empted must-see Thursday with UK basketball, although they must have gotten an advance feed from NBC, since they aired Cosby a half-hour early. The rest was VCR-alert overnighted, I think. They delayed SNL by an hour for close to 20 years! And they signed off rather than carry Bob Costas' show after Letterman, which ironically had them signing off earlier on weeknights than Saturday evenings. I hope that they improved once I moved away to the Nashville area, where I have lived for the past 25 years. Pre-emptions of that nature seem rare now.

I had the same issue with St. Elsewhere when WYFF/4 aired ACC basketball, although sometimes WHNS/21 would carry the game instead. Maybe it depended on the matchup.

WMC used to be the worst about pre-emptions in the daytime, and WPSD was probably worse in prime time, but WMC would do it at times as well. Also, where WPSD pushed SNL back by an hour, WMC pushed David Letterman back at first by 30 minutes, then a full hour. So they were both really bad about pre-emptions all through the day.
 
Back in the 70's and 80's, a lot of daytime network shows were not seen on the Philly affiliates.
KYW and WPVI were big on local daytime shows, but some of the network shows were seen on the independent stations(17, 29, 48, and later 57). Others weren't on at all in Philly and you had to pull in the New York stations to watch them.

Channel 5 (WTVF) here in Nashville pushed Letterman back by 30 minutes when he first came to CBS back in 1993, but I believe that that was because they had syndicated programming at the time that they were still contractually obligated to carry. Once those contracts expired, then they could move network programming into its proper time slot.

Obviously, the transition into 24-hour broadcasting has reduced the trend of early sign-offs, rather than carrying network programming. If WPSD had been 24 hours back then, I'm sure that they would have carried Costas.

I've recently noticed that WADL no longer airs NBC programs preempted by WDIV, including weekend sports programming that WDIV often preempts for infomercials. This leads me to a question. Are there any Detroit stations or WDIV's subchannels airing NBC's "American Ninja Warrior" this Monday night, June 26? WDIV will obviously have the local fireworks on their main channel. I checked WADL's schedule but they have their usual reruns. Thanks for any info.

I don't know what was on NBC last night at 10. I can only hope it was a rerun. The local affiliate decided to show a special with stories they might have had on their regular newscast abut scams and other investigations. I suppose this is important and useful information, but not if it has to take the place of an NBC show, unless it actually was a rerun.

here's a bizarre thing that happened with NBCSN tonight, or should i say last night as it's past midnight here in the eastern and central times zones.

the NASCAR Xfinity Series race from Daytona International Speedway started as schedule, but bad weather was already in the forecast as in there was heavy rain just moments away from making it's arrival when the green flag dropped. they only got in 11 Laps and then call the cars to pit lane for a rain delay which lead to NBCSN who had a MMA event scheduled to debut after the race at the infield of Daytona International Speedway. so they decided to push up the start of the MMA event for a new MMA promotion called Professional Fighters League. during the first match up of the card for the MMA promotion (which was schedule to start after the race ended), NASCAR decided that they couldn't get the race restarted so they announced that the race had been postponed to Saturday afternoon Eastern/morning for the rest of the country at 12 PM ET/11 AM CT/10 AM MDT/9 AM PT and MST where they will resume at lap 12. to make it feel weirder, they promoted the fight during the rain delay filler coverage from NBCSN (which was starting it's NASCAR coverage for the 2017 season) by having drivers and pit crew members of almost every team wanting to watch the first fight. so these drivers and pit crew members watched a fight and found out their night of racing was done at the same time. the MMA event had a roof over their Ring to keep the fighters dry from the rain.
