KEWA-FM files for silent operation.

On behalf of our client, Roy E. Henderson, the licensee of Radio Station KEMA
(FM), Three Rivers, Texas (FCC Facility ID No. 31640), we hereby give the
Commission notice that as of September 19, 2016; the Station has temporarily been
taken silent due to a failed air-conditioning unit which led to transmitter power supply
failure and transmitter damage. The licensee is diligently working to repair the
transmitter and replace the air-conditioning system. If the Station requires more than
thirty (30) days in which to remain silent, a formal request for silent authority will be
filed.

In looking at their licensed facilities it looks they are off by over 1600 ft.

I went through the area recently, it was apparently on with TX country, but overdriven and very very low power. I would stay away anyways judging by what I've read about this guy in the past.
 
I think those variances happen. I worked a station where the towers were about 750 feet from where the GS said they were to be. Then again, the towers were built before GPS became a 'thing'. It seemed the FCC wasn't concerned about it.

KEMA might be running really low power...not there. With so many little stations barely able to pay the manager a living wage, an AC unit going out might mean you have a really tough time scraping up the cash from your other stations barely turning a profit, to pay for the repairs. On the other hand, depending on the licensee, they might have invested in backup equipment and such prior to such an event, knowing it's going to happen but the question is when.

At one station I worked (that barely got by and my paycheck proved it) got struck by lightning. We stayed on at really low power and it took 5 months to save enough for repairs as the station lost 70% of their average monthly revenue. This fellow only had one station and had to find extra work to take on to come up with the cash needed to get back to 100%. Luckily not one paycheck ever bounced but we sure felt like we were on a sinking ship.


I think it fair to say no matter the station or owner, if the station is a cash cow, the fix happens in hours. You simply can't afford to not have it up as fast as humanly possible.

Issues like this are fairly common. From what I understand, you normally just have to file a minor modification to correct your coordinates. I'm not an engineer, though. So, if one knows otherwise, I'll welcome the correction.

Pretty much, KXEZ had a similar problem where the coordinates put the tower across the street from the actual location.
 
Roy no longer owns KEMA as well as all his other stations. The Texas stations are now owned by S Content Marketing, LLC and the Michigan stations are owned my N Content Marketing, LLC.
New Beginnings withdrew their objections.
 
That's not what I read on the FCC's Daily Digest. It said the New Beginning objections were rejected by the FCC and the license granted. N Content and S Content are essentially a name change by Mr. Henderson who for some reason likely better understood by his CPA was a good thing to do. It seems his stations are being transferred to one of these two company names and I gather N means north and S means South. A change in the name of a radio company is not terribly unusual. Remember Clear Channel is now iHeart.

As B Turner said, Mr Henderson still owns all the stations.

N Content and S Content appear to be Subchapter S corporations with limited liability, totally owned by Mr Henderson.
 
Someone else filed an objection to the station KEMA as well as some others owned by the same guy.
I still haven't heard anything on KEMA here in San Antonio in several years. The guy filing the objections raises the same points as other people that the stations are silent. He also doesn't like how they're moving it around closer to a big city for the owner's financial gain. I'll echo the objection filer; I haven't heard KEMA on since 2015, except for whatever low power setup they might still have going now I heard a few months back with TX country and no ID messages.

ALSO, BEFORE THE UNDERSIGNED IS AN APPLICATION SUBMITTED BY MR. ROY HENDERSON, THE INDIVIDUAL CURRENTLY HOLDING THE BROADCAST LICENSE FOR FACILITY 6022, KJAZ, POINT COMFORT, TEXAS. HE SEEKS TO MODIFY THIS LICENSE TO OPERATE AT LESS POWER SO THAT ANOTHER OF HIS CO-CHANNELED STATIONS CAN MOVE CLOSER TO A MAJOR CITY. REFERENCE BPH-20170925ADQ.

EXCEPT FOR BRIEF PERIODS IN 2015, KEMA AND KJAZ HAVE BEEN INOPERATIONAL FOR MANY YEARS. PER THE PUBLISHED RULES PERTAINING TO A STATION BEING SILENT FOR A YEAR OR MORE, BY OPERATION OF LAW THE LICENSE IS CANCELLED.

THE FCC RECENTLY ADDRESSED THIS VERY ISSUE IN ANOTHER APPEAL. REFERENCE BRH-20130328ABT. IN THE MATTER OF DKROY, MR. HENDERSON COULD NOT PROVE OPERATIONAL STATUS. THE LICENSE WAS CANCELLED. "
