WMEX?

They have oldies starting at 3pm on Saturday afternoon until 9pm and now they're doing it on Sundays as well, may as well just do it 24/7. :) :)

Rumor has it they're switching to an all-static format at the end of June :)

New guy Dennis starts doing oldies tonite on WMEX from 10pm to midnite -

Jimmy Callahan will be doing oldies Tuesday and Wednesday nites 9p - midnite and Saturday afternoons from 3 - 6pm -

Jimmy Jay will be doing oldies Mon, Thurs and Fri nites 9p - midnite and Saturdays from 6 - 9pm "at least til the end of the month" according to Jimmy Jay -

All oldies all the time on WMEX! (Key sentence "at least til the end of the month")

BTW - WMEX is STILL promoting "Shortsleeve and Mac" from 10 to noon and mcscreamer from 3p to 7p.
"Mac" hasn't been on with Shortsleeve for at least six months or more and "Shortsleeve" hasn't been on air for a couple of months.

WTH is this?? 1pm Sunday afternoon and it's Jimmy Jay on air? There's usually a replay of Savage from Friday at this time? Wow, it's a replay of Jimmy Jay from Friday nite.

Yep yep yep, ALL OLDIES, ALL...THE....TIME.

I have a question. WHY WHY WHY does WMEX insist on running this "comedy" (not even close) hour from 3 to 4p on Sunday afternoon? The woman's laugh is enough to make you want to slit your wrists! This is even less comical than the morning show and they are promoted as "The Hottest New Comedy Show In Boston." MEX has been running this disaster for about two months I think. And before you ask, no, I don't listen to it, I shut it off as soon as I realize MEX is still airing it. This 3 to 4 hour would be perfect for airing static or hell, even another hour of Jimmy Jay! ;) ;)

Tuned in yesterday 10 pm to hear start of the new oldies show. The signal kept fading in and out in Beverly as if I were trying to get something on shortwave. There were some old bits of WMEX including a song Chubby Checker did for them, mentions of the DJs from long ago etc. But that night signal..

I picked them up last night in Southington, Connecticut. Heard some good music. Heard WMEX mixing with some other station on 1510 that was playing newer music than WMEX was. The "DJ" on WMEX was talking about a Stereo recording vs a monaural recording and how it sounded on the original WMEX.

WMEX was in stereo (C-Quam analog AM stereo) when it was brought back as an oldies station on 1150 AM from 1985-1989. It sounded great on an AM stereo radio in areas where the reception was clean!

1510 was also in AM stereo at two different times. It used the less popular Kahn-Hazeltine AM stereo mode when it was soft AC WSSH (AM) in the late '80s/early '90s, then Motorola C-Quam AM stereo in the mid '90s when it was religious WNRB. AM stereo on 1510 was shut off permanently in the late '90s soon after the format was changed to sports.

Tuned in to Jimmy Jay tonite at 9;signal slightly better.Played J Geils "I Do", some KC and Sunshine Band and then actually a song from 96, "That Thing You Do!" (from film of same name), retro power pop.
Mike Hemeon on Facebook said "WMEX is playing oldies the next two weeks."

And...after that...?

Did it use AM stereo as country WKKU?

I remember WKKU, but I don't seem to remember it being in AM stereo, not sure.

1510 was WSSH (AM) twice, just before WKKU and again just after WKKU, and it was definitely in AM stereo one of those times, I don't remember whether it was before or after WKKU.

Dennis D (Denapoli) was having a couple of technical issues too. Mike audio had what he was calling a buzz, which sounded more like some kind of digital noise. Also, I think he said only one channel of the stereo source was being broadcast, and hoped it would be fixed next week.

All oldies, all the time - five nites a week from nine to midnite - Saturday afternoons starting at 3pm and going til 9pm - Sunday nites 10? to midnite and now Renegade Radio is going to be on for FIVE hours today - first four doing their regular nonsense and then an hour of music "requests".:eek:
