Ten Years After

We debated this issue in '07. http://www.radiodiscussions.com/showthread.php?494952-Death-Penalty

Sad, isn't it, Debaser and Doctor Bob are no longer with us. Most posters have fled the board. Only the stalwarts remain. Entercom has turned in the license to the FCC in an attempt to make the merger with CBS Radio amenable, and all that can be heard on 107.9 in Sacramento is white noise. The End. Literally.

Here's an interesting review: http://www.sacbee.com/opinion/opn-columns-blogs/dan-morain/article141982244.html

WOW! Where did all the time go? lol
I doubt that stunt will ever be repeated again, no matter what happens to 107.9 down the road...

She certainly has been a gadfly. I doubt that she would have won the license challenge. Entercom bailed on the license simply to expedite a vastly larger deal. They will end up with an even bigger presence in Sacramento. Odds are not good that some "little guy" is going to end up owning KDND. It would be great if she did get the license. I'd love to see her try to keep her head above water with her concept of how media "should" function.

Even if Sue won I don't think she'd keep the license herself - the goal was to take the license away from ETM. Oh, and "The End" isn't dead - it's just a few clicks down the dial at 106.5. So that would be "near The End"...

As far as I know, Sue did not apply for the channel. She simply filed against the existing operator.

We have to see if she appears with a bid at the auction where the frequency will be sold.

She doesn't have the funding to really pull it off. Her main interest is as a media watchdog. She made a film a long time ago that was meant to be an expose about conservative talk radio. If she were to actually apply for the frequency, she seems like someone who would want it to be a community non-com, rather than a commercial station. Sacramento is the kind of market that might support such a station.

In any case, given her expressed views on programming, it would be every commercial broadcasters dream that she get the station and, effectively, take it out of competition.

There's another challenge from Ed Stoltz that isn't satisfied with Entercom's action. He has filed to challenge the merger with CBS, and says they aren't fit to any radio stations.

Stoltz and his challenges have been discussed on the Sacramento board.

While Sue Wilson might not keep the license, Stoltz is one who's like to get it.

Which would be an interesting turn of events since ETM got Stoltz's KWOD 106.5 - the current home of "The End".

KWOD had success long long ago. If Ed hasn't spent all his money
on lawsuits, maybe he has a shot at the license.
He does enjoy litigation.

KWOD was a well known brand in Sacramento and for many
years actually was "Alternative". Current formats are hardly that...
