Fox corrects story suggesting Comey released 'top' secrets.

http://www.sacbee.com/entertainment/celebrities/article160750109.html

Now Fox is correcting a story over allegations involving Comey. But then at the same time its Fox News trying to move on from the Ailes era. But back to the hearing though Comey said it was to trigger an investigation though. Well current Fox News is making a hard decision here. How many Non-Trump viewers do they need survive?

Fox News Channel has corrected its story suggesting that former FBI Director James Comey publicly leaked classified material relating to his conversations with President Donald Trump.

A supportive Trump had retweeted the story after its original airing on Monday.

Fox said the program had been mistaken in suggesting that memos written by Comey and provided to congressional investigators contained "top secret" information. Instead, the material had a lower-level security classification.

The correction, however, left murky the question of whether Comey released any classified information to the public. Comey insists he did not.

It was unclear whether anyone involved in the story on "Fox & Friends" morning show on Monday was disciplined. Fox had described the information as a bombshell that accused Comey of "putting our national security at risk."

Moments after the president's tweet, the Washington Post put out a detailed story explaining how the Fox story was wrong. Realizing the tweet was based on incorrect information, other news operations basically ignored the tweet. A few hours later, Comey's friend, the professor who leaked the memos, confirmed that none of the memos he'd received contained any classified information. Thankfully, most of the news media avoided a big mistake. Except for Fox. Hopefully from this point forward, the president will not simply believe everything he sees on Fox & Friends. Maybe he should first speak with someone who works for him who actually knows. The people are not being served well by a president who refuses to use the resources available to him.

Well this shouldn't happen, you should check and double check your reporting and when it does any reputable news organization should issue a correction. I've notice CNN has had to do this several times in the last month or so.

Chris Wallace is also doing a good job.

That's True I seen some of Shepard Smith's rants plus Chris Wallace on Fox News and its amazing that these two people manage to remain sane at the network. These two talent are a reflection on what should Fox News do in the future in an era where Republicans are either threatening to move to Sinclair or other right wing outlets. How does the network respond?

Fox News has several reporters and anchors that are very good, The news side does do a good job at being fair and doing news without a slant. The problem (its just not Fox News its all three cable news networks) is prime time opinion hosts, commentators and guests are allowed to say things that are not true and it never gets corrected.

That's an error over a very narrow technical question. "Top Secret" is one of several specific classifications
assigned to classified data. It's illegal to release any of them.

We've been talking about Fox anchors in this thread, and today, Shepard Smith went pretty far in his criticism of the White House:

Wow this article mentions that Shepard Smith and Chris Wallace as being compared to Walter Cronkite. However, we are dealing with a situation where Republicans are threatening to leave Fox News for Sinclair Television. Maybe, Shepard Smiths rants mean nothing at this point. Yes I agree that Shepard Smith did a good job but that means nothing at this point I don't think pro-Trump people will believe any rant against the White House Until Mark Hyman and Boris Epstheyn agrees what Shepard Smith and Chris Wallace.

Republicans are threatening to leave Fox News for Sinclair Television.

That's the second time you've said that. Do you have examples?

Even with all of the attacks on CNN, not one of the former Trump staffers who do commentary there have threatened to leave.

There really is no place yet for anyone to go to Sinclair. That may change, but not yet.

At the same time, a lot of their stations are affiliates with networks that air entertainment shows that don't necessarily reflect Republican values. We've talked about that in other threads. So you might have a situation where a station will air a conservative commentary in its local news about health care, and immediately afterwards carry Jimmy Kimmel criticizing the Republican health care bill. I was speaking with someone today who was angry about Kimmel's language when he hosted an awards show recently on ABC.

Trump has nothing to do with Sinclair, and nothing to do with their purchase of Tribune. This sounds like fake news to me.

Trump loves Fox & Friends. It's the only thing he watches. If they say anything, he immediately believes it. Nothing has changed there.

There are lots of more practical reasons for Murdoch not to like Trump.
