Spring ratings for Hartford

Lite 100.5, Country 92.5 (up by a lot), 102.9 The Whale, CT Public Radio (up by a lot though not as much as WTIC-FM), The Talk of Connecticut, and WTIC-FM's stream all up.

96.5 TIC, HOT 93.7, WTIC (AM), The River 105.9, KISS 95.7, BOMBA-FM, WFCR (Springfield market), Kool 990/96.1, and News Radio 1410 (N/A) all went down.

Remaining Steady: Radio 104.1 and The Stream of WRCH.

In my opinion once iHeart gets WPOP 1410's FM translator on 100.9 on the air they should immediately launch it with the Throwback Hip-Hop format they just launched in Philly on WISX 106.1 FM.
 
Interesting. I wonder, though, if classic country -- as in the iHeart format now carried on WWYZ-HD2 -- might have a chance in the Hartford market now. After all, country has been a viable, successful format here since WWYZ flipped from soft AC to country in 1988. That's nearly 30 years, and there are likely many former listeners who'd love to hear the sound of '80s/'90s country on a main signal again.

I also wonder if iHeart's WRNX is going to have to alter its pattern, or whether the new translator will have a deep enough null in Springfield's direction to eliminate any possibility of interference. I can get WRNX here in Meriden, but it's definitely a fringe signal. This translator will wipe it out, but since WRNX isn't selling advertising for businesses in this area, that may not matter. Still, by the time you get to Hartford, WRNX is putting in a decent signal and people in the immediate Hartford area have been known to patronize businesses north of the city, toward Springfield, some of which advertise on Springfield radio as well as Hartford.

I can't pick up WRNX 100.9 in Southington, nor could I pick it up when I used to live in the West End of Bristol. It's a shame because I used to listen to "KIX" when they were on 97.9 back when they were the Springfield Market Country Station. (I liked them better than WWYZ). I also knew some NASCAR Fans who were upset they could no longer listen to the races because they can't pick up KIX 100.9 when they used to be able to pick up "KIX" when they used to be on 97.9 and they can not pick up WZBG 97.3 out of Litchfield because of BOMBA 97.1

iHeart already tried Hip-Hop with 104.1 about 14 years ago and they went back to alternative. iHeart would have to spend a lot of money on promotion to take listeners away from 93.7, which I'm not sure they would want to do for 1410 and a translator.
