WHOD FM switches to 80's to now New Generation Radio Smash Hits format.

According to google, "Smash Hits" is Oldies without using the word "Oldies."

Seems like a good format for SW Alabama to me, but isn't that what the Jackson LPFM (WJLQ) plays?

Two very different formats. Smash is more from the MTV era thru the 90's, and a few currents mixed in. For the 80's and 90's generation.

I've liked the Smash Hits format ever since I learned about it online, so this is a pleasant surprise. I wouldn't have figured new ownership needing/wanting to mess with the classic hits format, other than the name (there's another listenable 'Dixie' doing country at 98.5). And 94.5 did have a short stint in the early 2000s where they were lukewarm AC as WHNB "B-94.5". This new presentation of crossover pop is a lot better than that ever was.

The previous format was branded classic hits with the local liners but was really Classic rock. Smash serves a younger demo targeting both men and women.
