WCAU to include a 4am Local Newscast starting July 31st

Why?, besides the fact that it's cheaper than most programming. I would have thought those late night/early morning reruns were cost effective.
 
Network edict for a select group of O&O's.

I'd love to see something along the lines of "Barely Today" from WMAQ a decade ago.

Also cost effective is using your talent you already have, and keeping all the advertising $.

But as to why, much the same reason it's been done elsewhere. Changing patterns mean there's an audience there, enough so that adjusting schedules works out.
