Bud 94.1

I hear the translator in Longwood is now Classic Rock. Seems to be rebroadcasting 103.1 HD2. That's after a long stint simulcasting 103.1 The Wolf.

I'll be in Altamonte on Friday. Will give this one a listen OTA. 94.1 had a decent signal in Altamonte.

It is in fact rebroadcasting WOTW 103.1 HD2.

Jim and Bill and Austin: What are your thoughts of/on 94.1 The Bud's logo and positioning as "The King of Rock"? That logo and positioned is a little too close to Anheuser Busch's, I guess you'd say, "intellectual property" (?) for Budweiser Beer. Don't you agree? Isn't this "cease and desist" or lawsuit material. AB must have or will send some type of legalese papers to JVC, no? Is there a licensing deal between the two we don't know about?

I live in West Palm Beach where we had 93.5 The Bar: It has since flipped twice: to oldies (Scott Shannon's TOC) and now "dance/electronica" as Revolution 93.5. And it's been sold to Anco Media (formerly Zoo Communications), who developed "the Rev" format. I mention West Palm Beaches' The Bar in this O-Town thread, because -- I have been listening to The Bud exclusive as an internet stream since its first day (I really enjoy it; we have no rock outlet NOW in So Fla) and I must say it sounds EXACTLY like The Bar, in terms of format/programming.

I'd venture a guess, that with all the time and effort dedicated to setting up and programming The Bar, and since all that music was "stored" in servers, I think JVC literally took the automation hard drives from the Bar hooked them up to the 103.1 HD channel and let 'er rip. (The Bar was programmed locally, in-house, in WPB). Its so much a clone of The Bar, I wonder why JVC just didn't mirgate the whole "The Bar" intellectual property into Orlando. "The Bar" image and it's positioning (935 percent, 100 proof rock), was very smart and fun. It's a shame to throw it all away. While I like the "Beer Boobs and Rock" the Bud is using (and it would have fitted nicely into the "The Bar's image), I just don't see why you would risk lawsuits and infringe on another intellectual property's marketing logo and slogan (Budweiser), when you already had a great image and positioner up and running with "The Bar." Let's face it, how many O-Towner even knew The Bar ever existed. If JVC was a bigger company, the Bar could easily be a nationwide "brand" for all their (potential) classic rock/active rock mixed stations in the country. Again, JVC did an awesome job with setting up the Bar...it wasn't the programming or the airstaff that was the problem, it was the awful rimshot of The Bar's Class C3 15,500 signal out by "the Lake" and it couldn't reach into DT WPB, even with its relocation 7 miles east. JVC finally did get a translator for 93.5, at 92.5 to get into WPB, but by then, it was already too late: they mothballed "The Bar" and went with Scott Shannon's TOC by that point. A sad missed opportunity with The Bar for sure.

I did notice that, at first, in looking at Bud's website, which was never "officially live" until several days ago, but you could access it on a Google Search from day one. It seemed at the time, that the Wolf 103.1 staff was, I assuming voice tracking shifts for the HD channel that feed 94.1. But that doesn't seem to be the case, now that the site is "live" all that show, program, host info has been stripped. So I guess JVC's web team simply used the Wolf's page as a template (all the JVC sites are the same layout) . . . but, in all my listening, I never heard a "host/DJ" on the air in a stop set anyway.

Bud's whole marketing shtick is likely JVC's intention at hoping to show up in books within the market. The Wolf was always last in line since they started, and from the looks of things they're not even subscribing anymore. If the Bar moniker didn't work for them in WPB, then presumably JVC put together the Bud image to throw more of a shock-wave for PR benefit? Who knows...

Translator gimmicks such as this are the only thing popping in the market it seems anymore. I guess it helps keeps the dust of the shelf, and the marketing department heading in some creative direction. *Haven't listened yet* but from what I read here, when your product just sounds like a Pandora mix speckled with occasional imaging and liners, what's the point?

Back to the hole I crawled out of...

Hello. From what I heard the music is awesome. Heard tracks I have not heard since the old 96.5 whtq days and the old wmmo days. This is just an audio nerd post but the audio feed on 103.1 HD2 is mono while 94.1 is stereo. One night, I got DX from WLLD in Tampa and it was so strong, WLLD's hd took over bud 94.1.

My understanding is that JVC has a letter of clearance to use the Bud name and similar logo.

I must be easily satisfied here but I really enjoy Bud 94.1. I listen to it a lot now. I have heard tracks on there I have not heard before or have not heard in years. When was the last time a station played a lesser known song from lover boy like the kid is hot tonight? I have heard it on bud 94.1 first then WMMO decided to play it this weekend.

Both the HD2 and 94.1 feeds are stereo. Yes, WLLD does interfere with Bud 94.1, especially after midnight and into the late morning. The "I4 Eyesore" is also a great reflector for WLLD, causing a TON of multipath south of Central Parkway in Altamonte Springs. My HD car radio "blends" from Bud 94.1 to WLLD-HD1 and back again. When it does, it shows 94.1-HD0. There are some live jocks now, most notably Mick Dolan.
