Guess nobody noticed. KLVL's 95.3 translator files to hop to the Willowbrook area on 94.9. KGBC's translator files to hop to Baytown on 101.7.

LOL Siga cares so much about Houston and not San Antonio. Their San Antonio translator had something filed against it last year and hasn't come back on air since.

The weird thing about it is that the CP was granted in 2013 so it should have expired in 2016, right? It expires in 2019 though...

The engineers and consultants get paid a lot of money to determine where a translator will fit. Take 100.7 in Sugarland, or 97.5 in Tomball. These "probably" shouldn't have been allowed, but the fact remains that the computer models show they fit. That's all the FCC looks at when deciding whether or not to allow a translator. If it causes interference, then the lawyers get to make money duking it out.

These "probably" shouldn't have been allowed, but the fact remains that the computer models show they fit. That's all the FCC looks at when deciding whether or not to allow a translator. If it causes interference, then the lawyers get to make money duking it out.

The problem with computer models is that they assume "perfect" propagation of radio signals (with a predicable falloff of signal strength) with no regard to variations in terrain, weather conditions, buildings, etc. and that a signal will maintain constant strength at a given distance. They also seem to think that a radio signal suddenly vanishes once it falls below 60dbu, along with too much faith in the capture effect on FM receivers--that a 60dbu signal will have no trouble with a 50dbu signal on the same frequency.

You can blather about "not supposed to be there" but the real world is much different. And the real world beats theory, EVERY TIME.
