Well that Sunny 107.9 is south of Anderson, so it really doesn't interfere with WLNK in Greenville. The FCC needs to force the other LP to reduce to their legal limit, as apparently they are also way over power, according to local engineering sources. I can get WLNK on my home radio, and the HD locks in. But get in the car, and the interference causes problems. And in most areas you can't listen to the LP station either, due to mutual interference. The LP should move to another frequency or confine their signal mainly to Piedmont and south of Greenville as licensed. Then WLNK would come in clear again. But meanwhile it would be nice if Entercom would put Bob and Sheri on one of their Greenville signals since they have now acquired WLNK.
 
And I also have concerns about the Hispanic station on the 102.9 translator. It may operate legally, but it interferes with 102.9 the Lake. I used to get WLKO from Charlotte clearly on my home radio, and the HD would lock in. Now the Hispanic station wipes that out. And it even creates mutual interference in Spartanburg. Seems like the Hispanic station should be directed south of Greenville so it won't interfere with 102.9 the Lake, especially in Spartanburg. I have to strategically adjust the rabbit ears to tune in WLKO and null out the Hispanic station. Sometimes when I connect the attic antenna, it will tune in the analog signal from the Hispanic station, then the HD from WLKO will lock in. Another case of the dial being overcrowded. The full power signals should be better protected for fringe reception, rather than some arbitrary market boundary. Most of the full power stations west of Charlotte will reach Greenville if no other signal is allowed to interfere. But in recent years the FCC has allowed all these low power and translator signals to interfere, and it is very aggravating.
 
I can guarantee you that Gvl 102.9 translator is 100% legal. It is directional to the west of Greenville. And, thankfully, you're no fan of the Cat. As 96.9 is fully legal as well. That one gets out pretty good with nothing but charlotte directly in its way. Until 96.7 signs on in Seneca area. We recently had a corp engineer drive the market measuring and testing all the in and out of market signals.

I realize the 102.9 translator is legal. But I just think the legal spacing is too close. Because there is bad mutual interference in parts of Spartanburg, and WLKO always had a strong clear signal there, including HD. And I could easily get WLKO with rabbit ears in northern Greenville County. I just don't like once clear full power distant signals being limited by local translators. As for 96.9, the Charlotte station is further removed and the tower is not located west of Charlotte. So I don't have issue with the Greenville translator here. In this case the legal spacing makes more sense.
But the same interference issue is also a problem in Gaston County and York County near Charlotte, as translators now interfere with B93.7 and My102.5. And you used to be able to get 97.1 from Atlanta in Greenville, but now it is ESPN from Spartanburg. What happened to the days of full power stations promoting long distance signals without limitations of arbitrary market boundaries?

But I really wish something could be done about the LPFM on 107.9 interfering with WLNK in Greenville. I have been told buy multiple credible sources that they are way over power. I can get WLNK-HD to lock in on Augusta Rd, Haywood Mall, Target on Fairview Rd. in Simpsonville, and Walmart on Wade Hampton in Taylors. The signal is definitely there but will no longer remain locked in as before, and the analog has the mutual interference. But my home radio it is very strong, including the HD. Just does not seem right.
 
speaking of interference, does anyone else notice all the issues with 95.9 in Greenville? When I'm on Woodruff Road I get some Mom & Pop station. Near Furman, it's their low power station. Earth FM was coming in pretty clear on 95.9 for a while on White Horse Road. Then I think another one was fading in and out from somewhere, too!
 
That mom and pop station on 95.9 is an exceptionally strong translator for 1510 AM in Woodruff.

Its too bad 95.9 can't move in closer to Greenville. They could still cover Anderson, and get better coverage between downtown GVL and Powdersville where 103.3 starts to weaken and 95.9 struggles. 103.3 and 103.9 was the best set up, 103.3 signed on to compliment 103.9 to the east to begin with. It was never meant to be a standalone station.
 
The interference problem is now worse, and the FCC should now investigate the 107.9-LPFM in Greenville County. In recent days after the first of this year, they have apparently increased their power yet again, and they were already way over their legal limit. There is now bad mutual interference with WLNK in the Woodruff Rd. area, where previously WLNK had remained clear. And now the HD will no longer remain locked on in the car. WXRU should follow the rules and restrict their signal primarily south of Laurens Rd. and towards Piedmont as licensed. But despite another increase in power, it really has not helped their signal as there remains static and mutual interference. Fortunately at my house I still get WLNK clear with rabbit ears, and the HD remains locked on. But car reception for 107.9 frequency in Greenville County is now terrible, as both the LP has a bad signal, and they now damage the clear signal of WLNK. Very annoying. But WXRU is licensed to 100 wats power with a 5% waiver, and they continue to be way over power. They should reduce their power to the legal limit.
 
Simulcast Charlotte and Greenville?

Meanwhile, apparently Entercom has moved Vince Coakley back to Charlotte, and his program is now simulcast on WORD and WBT. I can get WBT on 99.3 and 107.9-HD2 at my house, but not in the car. But of course you can listen to 106.3 if you choose. But I wish they would also consider simulcasting Bob and Sheri on one of their Greenville translators or HD channels. Since they are all now Entercom stations, and that would resolve the WLNK interference issue. And Bob and Sheri are nationally syndicated, and I believe Entercom may now control the syndication rights to their program, as well as Matt and Ramona. Just a way they could expand their programming in both markets.
 
It's unlikely Entercom will put Bob and Sheri on in Greenville. They have no station with the correct format for them. Magic already has Murphy Sam & Jodi and, with the most recent numbers that came out for WSPA, I doubt they will change the morning show.
