W230CA-FM Panama City moving from 93.9 to 92.9

93.9 PLAY-FM (W230CA-FM) is teasing a move to a new frequency with a bigger signal BOTH on air and on Facebook.
Looks like they've been approved to move to 92.9 at 250 watts (they were only 90 watts at 93.9).
I'm looking at the coverage maps for 93.9 and 92.9 and the change doesn't seem to add too much ground.
Doesn't seem worth the trouble of moving frequencies or am I missing something?
Should be a solid signal anywhere in the Panama City/PCB city limits now at least.

From their Facebook page:
"IT'S OFFICIAL: PLAY-FM is getting a POWER UPGRADE and will vastly expand its coverage/reception area :)
Thanks to our loyal listener base and the thousands of people who love our station, PLAY-FM applied for and received
a license from the government to increase its power to reach tens of thousands more people.
The POWER UPGRADE will take place during the first or second week of September and also entails a FREQUENCY CHANGE.
Stay tuned - More information coming soon!"

I'm guessing that Totally Patrick thinks another area station will make a move that knocks W230CA off the air and he's tying up another frequency while it's still available.

This will increase the City Grade signal over Panama City and Lynn Haven. It will increase coverage in vehicles, and possibly fill in some dead spots in the 60db contour. The expense is minimal and is worth the effort.

If they can get the height, even better. An FM signal with 250 watts at 1,200 feet will create an FM signal comparable to a class C3 or close to it.

Yeah, I'm thinking WBLX will really mess with Play on 92.9 and right now 93.9 is a better frequency.
WTKP will eventually move to 93.7 which will take 93.9 out of play for translators in PCB. Gotta plan in advance.

he will probably be on the same tower at the same height......he wanted to diplex with my 96.3 translator on the ch7 studio tower at 330 ft but that wasn't possible....with 250 watts he will have pretty good coverage from where he is currently located.....I hope he goes to the trouble to retune his existing antenna or buy a new one tuned to the new frequency instead of cheaping out and using the existing antenna without touching it.....just sayin'.....

Is the current antenna broadband.

No it isn't....might be able to retune it but will require a tower crew and someone with the proper equipment to retune it...don't know if he will spend the money....probably a couple of thousand

I know everyone has opinions on Patrick but I gotta give him credit for one thing. PLAY-FM is very well programmed. It's one of the best dance/EDM stations I've ever heard. Music is 100% on point. New music constantly rotated in, there's just enough old school dance thrown in to give it that "oh shit" factor, he has just the right mix shows. Even the imaging/promos/legals are constantly updated, very high energy. And it hit a 1.2 share 12+ not long a go. Impressive for 90 watts in market #225 (?).

The move to 92.9 is complete.
