Advertising shows on different TV channels

This morning, while channel surfing, I noticed my local ABC affiliate (KOMO Seattle) airing a promo for the new PBS series on the Vietnam War. It was in the middle of "Good Morning America". Have you ever seen a commercial for a show on one channel air on another channel?

On cable sometimes or in the case of a duopoly of an OTA station. I.E. There's a lot of cross-promotion between Tribunes FOX 61 and CW affiliate WCCT-TV 20. There's another duopoly in Hartford/New Haven and that's NEXSTAR's WTNH (ABC) News 8 and WCTX (MY Network), but aside from promos for the Yankees games WCTX picks up from NYC, I don't see any other cross-promotion between WTNH and WCTX.

Oh and occasionally CBS will promote something showing on Showtime as they are corporate cousins. And CBS will occasionally promote something on TBS because CBS and the Turner Networks are partners in the NCAA March Madness Tournament.

I have. On cable certainly, and a lot of cross-promoting between co-owned networks, like Fox shows being advertised on FX, etc. HBO also runs ads on other networks. You'd think that the networks wouldn't want to advertise for competition, and the potential to lose audience, but they don't seemed to care anymore.

Remember back in the day, when a star from a show on another network would guest on say - Johnny Carson? Carson would always note, "The X show airs Thursday night on another network." That ended a long time ago - now they just name the network and the exact time of the show. So I don't think networks worry about that anymore, because there is so much cross-production. For example, I've seen Fox produced shows air on CBS, and vice-versa. CBS now owns Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune, but they generally run on ABC affiliates. And so on...

Not to mention - The Ken Burns Vietnam War series is a big deal, and I'm sure you'll see promotions, interview with Burns, etc. - on all the morning shows, and lots of other places.

My 12 in Charlotte has a lot of movies. And during those movies I see ads for Fox programming which airs on co-owned Fox 46.

I watched movies on FX this week while I was at the beach since cable comes with the room. They advertise not only shows on Fox broadcast and FXX but even National Geographic.

There are a lot of local ads too, and whatever makes them come up on screen does it after another ad has already started.

Regardless of who (FX or local), DirecTV wonders why anyone would stick with cable. It's like banging your head and other unpleasant experiences. Same station: DirecTV bad, Spectrum good.

National Geographic airs a lot of FX/FXX promos and even Fox News at times. Co-ownership of course.
But I've seen promos for new ABC primetime shows airing on various cable networks that have nothing to do with ABC. Of course, 'check your local listings'.
CBS Television Distribution & Sony Pictures Television run the Wheel/Jeopardy franchises, but they are syndicated to various big 4 stations. Here they air 7-8pm on KNDO (NBC), Wheel followed by Jeopardy. In Seattle of course they air on KOMO (ABC). But some CBS and Fox stations also run them.

Well CW Programming promos appearing on KPIX5. Well but that's because KBCW and KPIX are both CBS owned stations in San Francisco so that's normal for CW promos to appear on the primary CBS O&O.

Also KOVR 13 may do something in similar lines where the CW promo's appear on CBS 13 mainly because CBS Sacramento owns both CBS13 and KMAX CW31.

Hearst Sacramento there's ME TV promos and My 58 promos appear on KCRA mainly because Hearst wants the subchannels to get attention.

Here in Minneapolis there is one big one

Hubbard Broadcasting which owns KSTP (ABC), KSTC (Independent) and runs Me, This, Antenna and H&I on subs. They cross promote other stations all the time. You'll see stuff for KSTP 5 and KSTC45 on Me and AntennaTV and see promos for the diginets on each other and the 2 main stations.

How about Hulu, Amazon studios, and Netflix I noticed they have promos for their shows on Comedy Central. I'm not entirely sure about the correlation of Comedy Central audiences actually subscribing to Hulu, Netflix and Amazon Studios though. But they are there.

Travel Channel has been airing ads for The Good Doctor on ABC. I've seen this at least 2-3 times.

Well I seen xfinity and the NBC logo appear on non NBC channels in my area simply because Comcast is the main cable TV and internet provider in the San Francisco area.

I seen lots of Hulu, Amazon and Netflix shows having promos on cable TV and broadcast TV mainly for these companies to expand their audiences and they don't have any cable or broadcast outlets to go to to promote their shows. Even my CBS O&O will air these promos even though All-access directly competes against the mentioned companies above.
