As it turns out, shortly after the announcement on 9/26/17, the 99.3 K257FV translator was shut off.
Makes sense as the 92.1 Escondido signal will cover the area that the translator had covered.

Divesting KSOQ in San Diego was a logical choice for Entercom after all.

Signal Geek mentioned that Entercom would've sold FM 94.9 with the new owners flipping the station to Sports radio, but we all predicted Entercom is indeed selling 92.1.

They already have Air1 on 96.1, and K-love on two signals. Both formats cover the 92.1 signal area well, so they won't have much to gain there.

As it turns out, in the statement released on 9/27/2017, Air1 is coming to the 92.1 signal in Escondido.

96.1 doesn't reach well into North County, so it seems a logical fit, squeezing between
a translator on 98.5 FM (K253AD) Oceanside, CA (North County coastal area)
along with KPRI-FM-100.1 Julian (North County/East County inland area).

Anyways, it will be interesting to see how Entercom plans to shake things up with the additions of KYXY 96.5 and Energy 103.7 in their San Diego cluster.

People can stream KSON online if they have trouble with the signal.

Another possibly would be that Entercom may move KSON to 103.7 which has a stronger signal in the North County, and Energy would move to 97.3.

Would the Entercom suits flip 103.7 to country? Sure, they also own KSON, a heritage country station, but then they'd have an iron grip on the format. And San Diego had a 2nd country station for a few years (Bob FM 99.3), albeit on a weak T.J. signal. Entercom has already tweaked 98.1 to classic hits and remained near the top of the ratings, so no further changes expected there. 94.9 airs the Padres, but probably wont go all-sports because San Diego already has two other established sports stations. KYXY already picked up the newer hits dropped by 98.1, so they've been slightly repositioned. And I don't see 103.7 going rhythmic, 92.5 has been doing well with urban/rhythmic AC for nearly 20 years -- and the newer 95.7 is holding it's own. Why be #3 in a new format, when 103.7 is already #3 in CHR?

I guess you're right. As crainbebo pointed out, people can stream the station online if they have trouble picking up 97.3's signal.

I never suggested Entercom sell 94.9. I was just wondering if they might flip 103.7 to country, so they'd pre-empt any competitor to KSON. This strategy has been used many times in other industries.
