Directv offers refunds over NFL Games plus people offended over protests

who pays for jet flyovers at games?

Here's what ESPN says:

"This is important because typically flyovers are considered part of a unit’s training requirement. Pilots need so many hours in the air to stay current in their qualifications. For that reason, the cost of flyovers is part of the military budget -- not paid for by a sports team or league -- unless special circumstances dictate that the team must pay for the cost of fuel (in an area of scarcity, for instance)."

In addition, they see them as promotional events, good for recruiting. Cost can be anywhere from $30,000 to $450,000, depending on the plane, the number of planes, and the distance they have to fly.

Apparently Trump after the NFL and will punish them with Tax Laws???

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump is suggesting the U.S. change its tax laws to punish organizations like the NFL if members are “disrespecting” the national anthem or flag.

The NFL gave up its federal tax-exempt status a few years ago and now files tax returns as a taxable entity. So it’s unlikely that President Trump’s proposal, tweeted in the early hours Tuesday, would change anything.

Trump tweeted : “Why is the NFL getting massive tax breaks while at the same time disrespecting our Anthem, Flag and Country? Change tax law!”

On Monday, Missouri Republican State Representative Nate Walker, from Kirksville, called for the formation of a task force to study pulling state tax dollars that support NFL activities, more specifically, the Kansas City Chiefs.

Trump also tweeted Tuesday that ESPN ratings have “tanked” because of Jemele Hill, the anchor suspended for making political statements on social media.

While NFL viewership is down slightly, ESPN remains among the most popular cable networks, averaging 3 million viewers in prime time. The network has suffered subscriber losses over the last few years as some viewers have moved to streaming services from cable television.

Hill, an African-American co-host of the 6 p.m. broadcast of “SportsCenter,” received backlash last month after calling Trump a “white supremacist” in a series of tweets that referenced the president’s comments about a deadly white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia.

That comment prompted Trump to demand an apology from ESPN and White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders to call for Hill’s firing.

While ESPN took no formal action against Hill over the Trump comment, she did apologize to the network for the trouble her remarks had caused while standing by the tweets. ESPN cited that apology in announcing Hill’s suspension Monday , saying in a statement that ESPN employees had been “reminded of how individual tweets may reflect negatively on ESPN and that such actions would have consequences.”

Hill targeted Jerry Jones on Twitter on Sunday after the Dallas Cowboys owner stated that players who disrespect the flag would not play for his team. She suggested fans who disagree with Jones should boycott the team’s advertisers and not buy the team’s merchandise.

This rant only gets crazier and crazier and the NFL is being put in an odd position over politics.

A couple points: The NFL gave up their tax breaks several years ago. So he's wrong about that. The president doesn't have the power to change tax laws by himself. The NFL isn't actually involved in the protest, so he's blaming the wrong group. And a few years ago, the Democrats got in trouble using the IRS to check into conservative groups. He's treading close to getting into big trouble. When the government threatens citizens over their free speech, it can become a big problem. Other than that, I hope he's having fun, and the base is enjoying it. I wonder what they'll do instead of watching football on Sundays.

I thought congress both national and state make tax laws? Also this feud/scandal between the NFL, Jemele Hill and Trump gets crazier and crazier. Is anybody on the same page here. From boycott threats to having NFL players, coaches and fans get used as pawns in a political feud with a sports pundit like Jemele Hill and President Trump.

One time Kaepernick did his protest for something else like the then Ferguson fallout as least initially though but that's not the cause anymore. Now its what side are you in between Jemele Hill/NFL vs. Trump fiasco as the protest.

'Congress' is the Federal legislative body (Senate and House of Representatives) and make national tax and spending laws.

States have a variety of governmental architectures, some patterned after the federal and some different. They usually make some of the states budgets and tax laws but there are many others as well such as special taxing districts (education, environmental, fire, flood etc.) - although most of these set tax rates and not tax law.

President Cheeto, as usual, is off base with his comments and is referencing federal taxes only with his misinformation. In reality he has no control over taxes at the federal level and none whatsoever at the state or local levels.
