Christmas Music

WSRS will probably be the first to flip, they usually do either the first or second Friday in November. WMJX usually flips the Friday before Thanksgiving. And then WPLM usually starts to sprinkle in Christmas tunes on Thanksgiving, and then they go all-Christmas on December 14th.

I know they aren't officially in the market, but does 95.5 do full time Christmas music for any extended length of time ?

Will any station being sold off flip ?

I wouldn't bet on it. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that WBZ-AM, WBZ-FM, WZLX, WRKO, and WKAF will definitely not flip. The only two possibilities are 103.3 or 104.1, but if either does, it wouldn't bode well for their future post-CBS.

I believe K-Love plays Christmas music, but it is strictly religious in nature -- no Frosty, no Rudolph, no conspiring by the fire, pretending a snowman is Parson Brown, or any of that "holiday" stuff.

They may or may not bother but if they feel 103.3 or 104.1 would result in a bigger and more centralized signal, WEEI-FM SportsRadio could leap there, with a resulting Mix93.7 or Amp93.7.

I'd place a bet on WEEI-FM's moving to 103.3 for two reasons: (1) 103.3 was the home of WEEI-FM when CBS owned them, but more importantly, (2) the reason the Sports Hub went to 98.5 and Mix moved from there to 104.1 in 2009 was because the reach of 104.1 wasn't all that great. This was an important consideration for the Patriots' flagship station. Now I don't know if 103.3 is really any better than 104.1 in terms of coverage, but both are considered "full-market" signals, and either would have to be better for WEEI-FM than 93.7.

The "heritage" of 103.3 is no factor at all unless Entercom wants to flip WEEI-FM back to classic hits. Or soft rock, for the useless-demographic crowd.

So will we see a flip at 6PM tonight ?
Probably WSRS, which could easily rimshot Boston but is actually a Worcester County/Metro-West station. Either way, it's signal reaches much of Greater Boston and in my experience is actually stronger downtown than the two stations that actually care about Boston.

But do appreciable numbers of Bostonians or downtown office workers listen to a Worcester station, no matter how good its signal is? Classic rock WAQY Springfield pounds into Hartford, but Hartford classic rock fans overwhelmingly choose WDRC-FM or WHCN. I don't know whether Hartford folks consider Springfield a lesser city or if the Hartford-specific content on the Hartford stations (traffic, advertisers, even weather -- although the cities are only about 20 miles apart) keeps them from straying.

I live in the Hartford Market and I prefer WAQY over WDRC (Hartford) and WPLR (New Haven). WHCN is Classic Hits, but someone I know at the Country Station WWYZ says WHCN is Variety Hits. I also like WRKI (Danbury Market) over WDRC and WPLR. I also didn't like WCCC when they were Classic Rock for about a year and a half before they went bankrupt and sold to K-LOVE.

The ratings show that you are an outlier. Hartford PPM users prefer Hartford stations.

Ent. might get MJX by Fri, an LMA.Might Beasley throw all Christmas on WBOS 92.9 then as well? What format might they then there? Would doubt they make WROR Christmas unless they hold off on any station doing it and throw it on the week of the holiday?
