KHJS-LP back on air

KHJS-LP 99-1 is back on playing Spanish music (not sure if it's Christian this time). I just heard them announce themselves cutting in over the music.
The audio is actually decent and not distorted this time around, but last night the equalizer was nicer. I keep hearing them messing with the station and turning it off and then back on.

I think I figured out what it is. Last night the station's audio was normal, but now they either switched to a landline phone line for their transmitter, or they have an intentional lowpass filter on the sound to make the audio's highs and trebble go away, so it sounds like a phone line.
I noticed that when they started adding the ID messages, that's around the time when the audio went from good to bad. Then again I guess it's possible they like the sound that way.

Update: They're calling it La Nueva 99-1, I think that's what I heard anyway. I don't think this is Christian music since I've been listening a good deal and haven't heard Jesucristo or Dios in any of this music. I think it's like Spanish soft rock and a bit of Spanish Oldies.
As for the audio, I listened some more and no it's no phone line. Someone intentionally modified the equalizer to sound bad, it sounds like. There's a spike at like 2000 to 4000 HZ, in other words extremely boosted mid-range so it sounds like a cheap walkie-talkie.

Good they're back! That signal covers a bunch of people. A soft rock Spanish format might be a really nice niche. Maybe they'll get the processing back to what it should be.

Nice they fixed the phone line audio, it sounds decently good again. No distortion.
The music is mono now like 98.5 and 97.9 but the signal is stereo, also like 98.5 and 97.9.

Another thing for anyone who cares, it's indeed not Spanish Christian anymore. From what I can tell the new format is Spanish Variety. It sounds like the professionals have it now when compared to what it was blasting out before.

What is "Spanish Variety"?

That's just what it sounds like... Magic 105.3 but in Spanish. Here's a liner demonstrating the different types of music they play.

I haven't found a stream for the station (not yet at least), but if you use GlobalTuners.com and register an account you can listen.

That is a promo seeking listener input about "what kind of music we should play. This? Or this? Or like this? Or maybe this?" with clips of all kinds of Spanish language music ranging from cumbia to reggaetón.

I have the unpleasant feeling that they will come back sooner or later and say, "we found out you want to hear all of that kind of music on one station" and they will present a musical leftover stew.... because there is no variety in SA radio.

Presumably they're reading these forums.
It came back on since my last check, still the same Spanish Variety format. The audio on it is not stereo it's mono, but the signal itself is stereo.

LOL hey KHJS if you're reading can you play some English Alternative rock?

Whoever is running KHJS, I think they're not using it as a community radio station, they're more like just using it as their own personal jukebox. I haven't heard any liners or anything explaining a way to contact the station, and nobody's been live on the air whenever I've listened.

At least KPPC-LP 96.9 operates like a community station. http://www.kppcsa.com/

Now they're calling it what sounds like "GenX 99.1" and the number's in Spanish.
There's lots of what sounds like Spanish Top 40 and some older Spanish music with an English song here and there. I listened at midnight just now and did not hear an ID announcing the call letters and city in English like on every other station.

No social media or stream...how are they trying capture the young latin market? In addition to that, you have two full blown Spanish Top 40 stations in the market.

Many of these LPFM stations have solid ideas but either are unsure how to market it or they lack the funds to do so. Most LPFM stations are run by groups with no radio experience. Then some stations rely on volunteers and volunteers do things when they get around to doing so because they have other obligations as well.

The biggest issue for many LPFM stations is not thinking through things from the perspective of the person they want to reach. I recall my mentor when I got in to sales in radio telling me the best thing he could do for me was teach me to think like a business owner so I could communicate with business owners about advertising from their perspective. I applied that in everything radio (in programming to think listener and how to connect and reach them by understanding things from their perspective). They simply might not be thinking that way.
