New WDVR translator 95.9 W240CY Mt. Bethel, NJ

89.7 WDVR in Delaware Township, NJ has a new translator on 95.9 FM, W240CY, licensed to "Mount Bethel, NJ" even though there is no such town -- it's actually transmitting from the NJN TV tower on Geiger Lane in Warren Township, with a whopping 5 watts of effective radiated power.

So, fans of 95.9 WRAT in this part of central/northern NJ probably had a rude awakening to hear their rock music replaced with folksy classic country music!
 
WDVR-FM Translator

As an occasional contributor and air talent, looking forward to clear over-the-air reception of WDVR-FM in these parts after their 89.7 main signal was wiped out in this area by another station's translator.
 
Are they crazy? WRAT is clear in Edison, with full RDS text showing up on my car radio. Its only a matter of time before that translator gets shut down!
 
The translator is far outside WRAT's protected contour. Like many Jersey Shore stations, WRAT enjoys lots of additional coverage in central and northern NJ due to the favorable terrain, but this is not legally guaranteed to them. The problem for the translator is that although on paper everything looks fine, this additional WRAT coverage does exist and is causing massive interference to their feeble 5-watt (ERP) signal.
 
Speaking of Warren Township, they now have a TIS on 680 kHz that is doing nothing except repeating the message that their transmitter came programmed with -- just like the TIS on 1640 kHz in Middlesex. Perhaps Mr. Phoenix would like to record some IDs for these stations? :)

Hiya, Kevtronics: Been hearing that new 680 here in North Plainfield; it just about wiped out my reception of Bernie Wagenblast' efforts on the Cranford 680 TIS. Such are the vicissitudes of 10-watt TIS radio. As you might have heard, I stay reasonably busy as North Plainfield's Municipal Clerk and as licensed operator (old 1st Phone) of The 1630-AM Flamethrower. If you really want to hear me on an extended basis, I also volunteer on a certain on-line station originating from the UK. One of my latest broadcasts was heard worldwide on Friday night, 27 October (eastern) via Radio Caroline, also in the UK. Thanks for the mention, Kev!
