As the World Turns was a major soap in the 1980s, I can't imagine childhood without it or any of the CBS shows and it's very odd to see that KDKA 2 in Pittsburgh didn't even show it! They had B&B at 2:30pm with a local show at 1:30pm and before that Capitol at 1:30pm and their local show at 2pm. I'm very surprised they wouldn't show ATWT at 10am at least (or their local show at that time) pre-empting the game shows as many CBS affiliates did with the 10am hour. I can't believe this area missed out.

The short lived 'USA Today' syndicated show was on then and INN News, perhaps intentionally, had changed the name of its newscast to USA Tonight. It would end its long run in 1990. Arsenio Hall had just started his show, which really made clear there was room for a second late night talk show and paved the way for CBS to pick up Letterman some four years later.

A lot of the Pittsburgh area could pick-up WTRF in Wheeling, as well as the other CBS affiliates in Altoona (to east), Youngstown (to west), and probably from a distance Cleveland (with WJW back then). Perhaps that's was also why the Pittsburgh indies didn't pick-up whatever CBS shows KDKA didn't clear.
