iHeart gets most stations; 98.5 to Beasley

@bostonradio tweet:"Beasley trades magic 106.7 to ETM/CBS for 98.5.However, it won’t shock many if magic format moves to 92.9 and weei shifts from 93.7 to 106.7"

The sad news is that WRKO will likely end up with all Premiere syndicated programming (and 1430 leased or sold.) WBZ-AM will be a shadow of what they are now with the cuts iHeart will make on staff. They are pretty piss-poor at operating news and talk stations.

Even though this doesn't become official till Q1 2018, I wonder if 92.9 will flip to Christmas music in a few weeks to undercut 106.7 ?

Sadly 92.9 seems to be in a death spiral.

The press release indicates iHeart will divest WKOX 1200 (as well as KFOO and KUBE in metro Seattle).

Sad news?

Anything is better than Kuhner and the Financial exchange! I would be happy to see real talk programming in those slots.

I think Howie stays.....and that crappy evening program will be gone too for some more actual talk programs.

I don't know....iHeart owns some pretty big news/talkers...and some of them sound pretty good.

KOA, WTAM, WHAS, WHAM, WRVA....all sound pretty OK to me.

Remember, WBZ is a shadow of what it once was....already! ;-)

My guess is that they won't do anything to screw up this sale....so a last-minute maneuver like that is unlikely.

Assuming IHEART would clear Limbaugh on WRKO, Crazy Kuhner would be the odd man out. I don't see them moving him back to morning drive or putting him on in the evening. They probably want to keep taking Armstrong's money and Carr has an audience.

I wouldn't be surprised if they ran Limbaugh on BZ from noon to 3 although I would consider that a big mistake considering he never had big numbers in this market to begin with.

Why WBZ? WBZ is such a monster station, with a clear channel signal audible all over New England and beyond. No one does intensive news like CBS and WBZ has such heritage. I thought the purging required by this merger was with their batch of FMs; not AM.

The divestiture mandate required a reduction in the total market revenue and did not allow the two sports stations to combine. WBZ (AM) is a logical spin, as, although it has good billings, it has high expenses and is, after all, an AM station.

WBZ (AM)'s big signal is, today, only useful for providing relatively interference free reception in metro Boston. There is no sales advantage in covering adjacent markets, as at this moment, radio is not bought that way. So if they have a signal in Fall River or Cape Cod, it is not something that can be monetized.

Aside from belt tightening, I ♥ Debt won't screw up cash cow BZ. In addition to the other successful newstalk stations they own, there's the left coast monster KFI.

Will WBZ Radio no longer be able to do cross promotions with WBZ TV Channel 4 ?

Lights out for WRKO. The crazy Right-Wing dug its own grave, but bury it deep. Don't want these Zombies coming back from the grave.
