Surprised that the Private Benjamin TV show was syndicated at all since it only lasted one season.
It was syndicated mainly because there were so few hit sitcoms in the early 80s, according to Broadcasting magazine. Remember, before "Cosby Show" hit huge in 1984 there was lots of talk the sitcom was dying. "Private Benjamin" lasted 39 episodes; "Bosom Buddies" got syndicated the same time even though it had only 37 episodes.

I think Bosom Buddies benefitted as Tom Hanks star rose. I remember it airing again on network TV in the summer of '84 as a summer fill in. Private Benjamin had no such star power, but the explanation does make sense.

I used to watch Private Benjamin when I was 7 living in NYC. What channel in NY carried that program. And I noticed Fox isn't listed in this listings.

The only real benefit, if any, the Private Benjamin series had was that two of the actors/actresses from the movie reprised their roles for the TV version (Eileen Brennan and Hal Williams). Speaking of both shows, around the time of these listings, KTLA in Los Angeles was running both of these series in early fringe, but if I remember right, it was part of a rotation of sitcoms they ran a different night at 7/7:30pm.
