WIIN now has blues

After a weekend of Christmas music, WIIN (780) now has blues.

WIIN broadcasts only during the daytime. But now, it has an FM translator--W226BS (93.1)--which broadcasts 24 hours a day. Hence, the station is nicknamed Blues 93.1.

93.1 faint signal @ Walmart on 18

very very weak translator. Only a few miles coverage area in North Jackson. I've picked up 780 all the way into Arkansas and almost to Tupelo during good conditions in a car when it was 5000 watts. Not sure anymore, they are now 4000 watts from a different tower. If I were them I would still mention 780 on the air because the 55 watt FM TX just won't cut it, especially with all the FM splatter when driving around Jackson.

BTW, I've heard very few actual blues songs. 90 percent is what I would classify as "Southern Soul"

I am thrilled that this station is once again broadcasting something other than county and Western music (found elsewhere on the A. M. dial). I had been thinking that they have broadcast blues in the past at some point, but I now think that I am confusing it with 1490 A. M.

It did indeed play blues. It played "classic" or traditional style blues several years ago as "Blues 780" I liked it better. They played stuff by Muddy Waters, BB King, Howlin Wolf etc. The problem with "Blues 780" was that they never kept an eye on the station. It was put on auto pilot and would often be dead air or off the air. They also suffered audio/technical problems that went unadressed. The station has in the past been Album Rock (simulcast of Rock 102), Motivational talk (winners news), Black talk (briefly) Women's talk, Oldies, Adult Standards, Mexican, Beatles, Southern Gospel, Country and maybe more. Some only lasted a few months
