104.3 In Chicago WBMX?

Interesting things could happen here, the format isn't a bad idea for Chicago however, there's been a WBMX website for almost 20 years, there's a station that appears to broker out time to the website which is producing an entire weekend of the music, there's a vibrant facebook page for wbmx as well. It appears they're very active and have been for many, many years online.

With laws not always keeping up with what eveyrone's doing, I'm just wondering what legs wbmx as a website entity has vs. Entercom's desire to bring call letter back to Chicago.

It's obvious something allowed the wbmx website to exist all these years.

Is there a possible fight brewing? I guess we'll find out soon enough
 
I am still having a hard time believing that Entercom will strip the WBMX calls from their sister station in Boston which has had them since 1991.
 
Not sure what Entercom has requested for 104.1 in Boston, but it filed a request to change WJMK's calls to WBMX earlier today.
 
Most 104.3 listeners likely do not even remember the original WBMX and were likely very young (or perhaps not even born) when it existed.

By the way, the Boston station will be using "WWBX" going forward.

Maybe the fall back plan is to go full-on Urban AC with the WBMX branding if & when the "Jams" format runs its course? Rumor has it the Boston station might be traded to another owner in the market, which could explain why Entercom is stripping those calls from the Boston station now. Or, this could just be the manifestation of a weird fascination with those calls on deCastro's part.
 
The WJMK call letters are much more suitable for the "JaMs" moniker and, IMO, should be kept with the station.
