Does Nashville Still Have Radio Stations and Ratings?

Tibbs4

Banned
I don't get on RD as much these days. The Nashville board needs a little jump in energy, so....

Today the latest ratings came out:

Mix #1 again after a rough patch that stemmed from signal issues. New morning show is #1, as well.*
Jack and Mix are the two top stations*, the Beat still getting some good lovin'.
Most of the usual suspects have not moved much.
AM is pathetic in Nashville.
KDF is pathetic and needs to be corROCK-ed.

....and now we have 4 frequencies playing Christmas Music.

* in the demo that "matters."

How's the Hippie doing? How are the hipsters doing? Inquiring minds want to know.

I keep reading that people in lots of other places would really like a Hippie in their town. By that I mean the radio station.

BigA - How are you? Sorry, I have not been on here as much. I miss harassing you.

Hippie keeps plugging along. You know the small owner drill. Almost six years old. The local folks that buy local ads are still buying and things are still growing. Then again...here comes January! If all those people wanting a Hippie in their backyard wanna buy a station, I can steer em in the right (or is that left) direction for all of the Hippie playlists, details and rights. I guess these are the same folks that are waiting for iH and Cumulus to sell them all their stations for 3 cents on the dollar?

By the way, you and David's conversation on the LA market ratings is perhaps your best work to date. Great info and a fun read. I mean that! Hope you are doing well.

P.S. -Time to move to the South? 2018 will be a very interesting year in radio in market #44.

I just saw in Tom Taylor's newsletter that the NPR station in Nashville is #1 in morning drive. Bobby Bones is pissed.

Ain't happening, Tibbs. But if you had ever heard Rock 103 in Memphis back during its heyday, you definitely WOULD'NT be pining for the return of KDF as a so-called "rock" station. Even the Jackson, TN, stations outrocked them during their heyday. (Although I might agree that KDF is STILL pathetic!

Mix 92.9
The Fish
93.3

Who else? If you are counting both Fish frequencies, they are actually up to THREE frequencies now. (104.9, the old "Solid Gospel" channel serving the 'boro.)

I could see 93.3 doing Christmas if we were still in the (mostly) analog dial days, but not sure who is going to be fooled by what they are doing now.

Fire - I know whatcha are saying. Believe me, I get what you are saying about KDF vs Rock 103 (or even WIMZ in Ktown or KZ 106 in Chattanooga) back in the 70s, 80's and even in to the 90s. KDF was Nashville's "true" Rock n Roll station. Others out rocked KDF, but KDF outlasted them all. I was just trying to start a little discussion, but truth be told, Cumulus needs to flip it back and get the hell out of the country nosedive. They may get it right, but it would be a shock. There is NO EXCUSE for a station with 100kw to be performing this sadly. RQQ had better numbers and they played the same song three times in a row.

Yes: 92.9, 93.3, 93.7/94.1 are all Christmas. Aptly called "Christmas Row." Have not heard much on 93.3, but heard it was Christmas. I forget that that station is even on the air.

BigA - We both are correct on morning show #1 status. I tried to point that out in fine print. It is interesting that WPLN has the listenership. Someone outside of this market said that there is so little left to listen to here in the morning that it is purely by default. I will not deny some validity compared to the old days, but times have changed. Bones is flat out a hard one to figure out. I have my thoughts on that, but maybe that is a new thread.

Nashville is one of the few southern towns where public radio is getting ratings. The thing that differentiates WPLN is no music. Music divides based on taste, but if you want news, there's only one station.

Did you live here back in the Rock 106 days? I am told that they were pretty good.

Oh, and 97.1 played at least one song ("Livin' Thing" by ELO) FOUR times in a row! It showed up on their just-played list (at the time) as lasting 14 minutes!!!! Even got a humorous comment (which I "liked") on their Facebook page at the time.

Don't know about KDF these days. Are they still the tight'uns affiliate station? If they are, that might be about all that they (still) have going for them.

Do you live in the Rivergate area? If so, you might be able to pick them up on their other translator at 101.9. I am not sure at what area that signal is being aimed. Apparently, when they flipped 102.1 to "The Ville," they did not also change 101.9. I had only recently heard that 101.9 was simulcasting 93.3.
