ALT 96.5 debuts, but on HD2

I was just putting in the Google search engine, Alt 102.9 Tacoma, and it popped up. When I clicked the link, it went to ALT 96.5.

https://alt965.iheart.com/

It states in the logo that the station is now playing on the HD2 signal of Jack-FM. I guess that spells the end of Boom FM (50s-70s oldies).

I still suspect this format may segue to the main 96.5 signal, once all the dust settles and I Heart takes full control of the station in January.

That’s what I suspected. iHeart has been looking at expanding their Alternative roster lately, so this might be a warmup of what Seattle can expect in 2018.

Just looked at the 96.5 HD2 website again for ALT 96.5, and when I clicked recently played, the music was all Smooth Jazz artists. Talk about weird. Can't wait to get home and actually tune in the HD2 signal to see what is playing. Looks like the music from the current 102.9, not alternative rock.

As of now it is still Boom FM on the HD2.

I don’t think iHeart would’ve toasted KFOO 102.9 so soon if it had intended to move the format to 96.5. The best way to make a move like that is to tout it as a major upgrade.

The way iHeart is handling these moves doesn't make sense to me at all, though it probably will once the dust settles. If they're planning to restore both KUBE and KFOO to full market signals, then why kill them now on the current signals? Then again if they weren't, why put the calls on a no name AM station? Does anyone know when Boom will go away? I'm actually going to miss this station, not a bad oldies station at all. Does anyone know if Entercom is planning to keep it around?

They're trying to figure out which wire goes where.....

But seriously, almost no one listens to HD over the air signals outside of their cars. They could swap Alt and Jack. But que sera sera...

Willing to bet that no one on here really knows what "X" company is going to do with their properties, flip formats, etc, etc. Throw it at the wall and see if it sticks. It's a fun waste of time and easy to spew forth ridiculousness...

96.5 will go all Polka and 94.1 will debut a Reggae format and Fitz will be back doing country on the new 98.9 - well actually that could happen as Marc has a history of trying to scoop up talent like that... Regardless no one who really knows what's going isn't going to post it here. But hey keep throwing out the posts it gives me something to read when I'm on the toilet.

Speculation has been here since the dawn of the radio (or any media) industry. Happens just as much inside it (and more so) as outside. It's the nature of the beast. It's why boards like these exist. The thing to be afraid of is when NO ONE is talking about it.

Per Radio Insight's 12/19 edition: Smooth Jazz 102.9 KFNY Centralia (formerly Alternative “Alt 102.9” KFOO) and Christian CHR 104.9 KTDD Eatonville WA (formerly Rhythmic CHR KUBE) are now being operated by the Jeanette Tully led Ocean States Trust until divested. iHeart dropped the former formats on the two Washington stations last week in order to retain the intellectual property. KUBE’s format is now housed on 93.3 KPWK-HD2 Seattle, while the Alternative format relaunched today on 96.5 KJAQ-HD2.

The site also reports that I Heart Media is now in full operational control of JACK FM and KZOK. Thus, changes can occur at any moment with either station.

I don't know for how much longer, but my TuneIn app still has the BOOM! '60s oldies channel as KJAQ-HD2.

There are no iHeartMedia stations on TuneIn I know of, but KZOK and KJAQ are still there

Where's a 'like' button when I need one. :)
