NEW #750 is a TIS! 12/14/17

Late last night, I finally bagged my 750th.

1610 - WQHE837 Stevenson, WA; WSDOT TIS with partial looped ID message under WQBV569 Union Gap at 2322 PT; '...QHE83...' and mention of operating on 1610 AM. NEW #750, 10W (suspected) at 87 miles. Not bad, over mountains and rugged terrain at that power!
Also heard on 1610 was a NOAA TIS with mentions of wind speeds 25-35 mph and lows 35-40 degrees. Don't think this was Pendleton, OR because we haven't had high winds lately. Suspect one of the Coast Guard TIS stations at either Aberdeen or Cape Disappointment/Ilwaco which have been heard by DXers on the western side of the state. Bearing was SW.

Great catch. Yep, 10 watts with a max ERP of 2.5! (crappy loaded TIS antennas)

1610 can be a fun frequency as long as you are out west and CHHA isn't much of a factor. It's fun hearing a distant TIS come out of the soup for just a short time, some with NOAA weather, others with highway announcements, others still operating from parks and monuments with looped information on sights and attractions. There are some DXers on the west end of the state that have heard Northern California TIS stations.

Main problem at my location is the master blaster on 1620 (KYIZ -- transmitter about 6 miles from me as the crow flies), but that's the breaks. I do have one radio that cuts their signal down adequately (my DX-398), but most of the radios I use for DXing still deal with a considerable amount of splatter on 1610.
