KABC 1972 Aircheck

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vn-39L9OnPk

Note back then Joseph Benti and John Schubeck were the Anchors at KABC Eyewitness news at the time. But Wow Harold Greene was even on KABC back in 1972. I thought Greene would be in San Diego and San Francisco in the 1970's before going to Los Angeles.

Harold Greene was on KPIX 5 (CBS) in San Francisco as co-anchor to the revered Dave McElhatton. I want to say about 1978-79. I was surprised that he went on to such good fortune in LA, because he was a flop in San Francisco - just kind of a stiff on camera - and he didn't last long. They initially replaced Greene with another caucasian man - then, of course, KPIX, like most stations, went over to the older white man/young ethnic woman anchor team, and paired Dave with Wendy Tokuda.

So perhaps Greene left KABC for KPIX, then returned.

A great OTA recording. But why did the YouTube poster of the video use 16:9 "squishvision" of a 4:3 original aspect video? (I said as much in the YT comments...)

I was surprised that they still called it "The Big News" in 1971. I always thought that was a stupid brand. I suspect that name was originally chosen as a 'brag' because KNXT dominated the local TV news ratings in the 60s, but I think by 1971, both KNBC and KABC were putting the hurt on Channel 2's ratings.

Always loved Clete Roberts...one of my favorites....seemed like he'd be a fun, crusty old guy.

Here's an even-earlier KABC (pre-Eyewtiness) Newscast, from 1965, in the aftermath of the Watts Riots...

Also, a KNBC 25th anniversary special from their "Sunday" magazine series from 1974 (although it was labeled 1973), hosted by Paul Moyer and Kelly Lange, with Art Linkletter and Steve Allen making appearances, as Paul and Kelly tour around the old NBC lot in Burbank...
