WMEX Auction....TODAY!

I seem to recall that the listing for WMEX's sale said that the auction deadline was today.

Anyone know the results?

;-)

OMG.... not KQV, too! If I had roots in Pittsburgh, I'd buy it especially for the callsign! But maintaining 5 self-supporting towers (in straight line) on high-value land is quite expensive, along with 20-person news staff. - As to Boston's WMEX, I haven't heard a word yet. We'll probably never know the thruthful number of bids there were, nor how much everyone bid.... IF anyone.

I'm willing to bet that the auction was a big fat FLOP! The logical half of my brain can't conceive of anyone plunking down any serious money on a station nobody's been able to make a dime off if in literally decades.

The only way WMEX could get back on the air is if it is taken over by a group / organization for whom the financial bleeding is less important than "The Agenda"....whatever that agenda happens to be.

True dat. The towers lease and electric bill are staggering for a station that reaches more fish than humans. If ever there was a lame AM in need of a translator, it's WIMMEX.

There's a chance someone might fire 1510 up again soon if they can work out a lease. No other details (and yeah any effort would be a longshot to survive)

Perhaps WATD might move the WMEX license to Brockton, delete the 1460 license and end result WATD on 1510 could get a nice bump in coverage with possibly 50 kW day, but anything over 10 kW night may require additional towers to the WATD plant.

Speaking about 1460, it has been silent for several days. I wonder if the 1510 sale might have some bearing on 1460's silence.

Well....looks like I was wrong. I really truly thought NOBODY would plunk down any $$$ for WMEX. This development does lead me to a couple of questions though:

Could WMEX be temporarily run out of the 1460 facilities until something permanent could be arranged?

Is the 1460 license worth so little that an owner would consider simply turning it in to the FCC to be deleted?

Is it any harder to operate at night on 1460 than it is on 1510? I know the latter is quite constrained but what about 1460?

WATD AM filed a STA due to antenna site issues...

If Ed Perry can't get WATD AM up and running in Brockton on a 1 tower setup ( if I am reading the CP correctly) how the bleep does he plan on getting 1510 up and running anywhere in its current classification and C.O.L.?

The only way it works is a massive downgrade and a C.O.L. change..... and even if he got it for the rumored amount ( we still do not have confirmation, so it is all speculation) how does he make it profitable?

How does anyone make 1510 viable in the AM environment?

Another source who reached out for info told me that the buyer isn't him but who knows..maybe he's part of it somehow.Broker has said details are being worked out, according to N East Radio Watch but we're still in suspense.

"Finally confirmed to me by Ed Perry who owns WATD 95.9 on the South Shore. He is the new owner of Boston’s legendary WMEX 1510 pending FCC approval, of course.."

In the Boston area 1460 has a first adjacent on the air day and night, 1470 WAZN Watertown (transmitter in Lexington). 1460 would be limited to well south of metro Boston.

Ya know...if there's anyone who could make a go of it....it's Ed Perry.

He understands the business end and the engineering end.

Now...what will the programming be? ;-)
