What is WBZ i ?

I keep hearing what sounds like a required station ID on WBZ since iHeart (formerly Clear Channel) took over 'BZ. Does the "i" refer to iHeart and is that a legal ID?
BTW, iHeart is one of the dumbest name changes ever. Has no panache or class. How does that name relate to radio or the media - or a trump spelled it in a recent Tweet - "meida"??? :)

How does it relate? Remember the bumper sticker craze a few years ago with the big red heart? Something like "I (heart) Dogs" meaning "I love dogs". I Heart Radio means I love radio.

Tilden,

When you think of all the light-bulb power AMs that iHeart Radio owns and operates, it makes even less sense to say, e.g., "WKOX, Everett-Boston, a Clear Channel Radio station." If you're anything like me, when you think of "clear channel", a 50,000-watt (more than likely, non-directional) blowtorch with no one else on its frequency at night comes to mind. But few, if any, of those really exist today.

"Clear Channel" denoted old technology; iHeartMedia was chosen to position the company with investors and advertisers with digital and the modern age.

You are correct; I recall reading that somewhere, too.

iHeart sounds like a dated bumper sticker like i Heart (insert heart symbol here) Dogs, Cats, etc. Or maybe dated like the bumper sticker "Make America Great Again." Who knew it would really be "Make America Grate Again...." :)

Youtube has a bit someone did about Christmas at Clear Channel--layoffs etc. "Look at the happy employees clearing out their offices...probably to make room for the Christmas tree.."

I imagined my own song parody, a bit of black humor, to the tune of Weird Al's Christmas at Ground Zero.Tougher to do a parody when the name is iHeart:

It's Christmas at Clear Channel, the layoffs are on their way..
now we gotta tell Bob he lost his job, and all his take home pay.
(Bridge) Everywhere the ratings shares are dropping. It's the end of old C.C....

All I have to say is if I hear that EyeHart iplay "tune" one more GD time someone's guru a get hurt! 😜

Someone elsewhere on one of these message boards remarked that they are below the standards of WBZ in that they sound like they belong on a ā€œcheap rock stationā€. So, no, you are not alone in this sentiment.

But by the same token they point out the demographic differences between audiences for an all-news station and a music station.

It's a culture clash forcing this kind of material on a radio station like this.

Actually, I like the iPlay ad with "Helen"; it's that awful electronic dance music at the end that $uck$. The other iPlay ad with the screaming kid (?) is god-awful and should be banned from airplay.

Anyone miss those ads for CBS-TV yet? ;)

It's funny. I know plenty of non-radio geek people (read: no one on these boards) who listen to various music formatted stations in Boston that tune into WBZ for traffic and weather together on the 3's or to hear headlines. With their cume, why not promote your company's digital platform? Sometimes when you have a broader based format (like news talk), not every ad on the station is so narrow focused that it hits everyone listening. If your target demo is Adults 25 - 54, what does a 25 year old woman have in common with a 54 year old man? If a 25 year old woman will sit through a Larry King read ad for prostate health, a 54 year old man will sit through a promo for a smart phone app promoting that "god-awful rock and roll music" the kids are listening to these days.
