Quite the addition to your collection! I had no idea Jackie Cooper was such a presence in the early days of television.

No Des Moines stations in this "Iowa edition?" Was there another TVG edition that carried that market at the time? By then, their full Big Three of WOI-5, KRNT-8 (now KCCI) and WHO-13 had already all signed on.

Yeah, I was surprised to not see the Des Moines stations in here. Hello?? Iowa?? Yet the 'Iowa' edition listed them by 1963 according to Matt Sittel's website.

Maybe there was a Des Moines edition back in the 50s? Or Des Moines-Ft. Dodge-Ottumwa?

Sittel's site doesn't have anything about it, but he does list a Wichita edition in 1958 with only 6 stations so it's possible.

As big of a surprise as not seeing the central Iowa stations was seeing the two Rockford stations. Perhaps people along the river, particularly Dubuque, were able to receive Rockford better than the CedarRapids-Waterloo stations. But a review of some of the yearbooks at AmericanRadioHistory.com show WREX 13 only at 46 kW ERP visual and WTVO 39 only at 195 kW ERP visual.

My guess is if Dubuque viewers were watching Rockford, there were a lot of 40 and 50 foot masts on top of houses.

It would have been interesting to compare KTVO's schedule with that of Des Moines' KRNT, as KTVO for many years depended on OTA reception from the Des Moines stations at Oskaloosa, which was microwaved to the Ottumwa studios.

Maybe the Iowa edition at that time was also mailed to subscribers in northwestern Illinois (e.g., Galena, Savanna, Sterling-Rock Falls). Including some areas that might have received fringe reception from Cedar Rapids-Waterloo.

When the Illinois-Wisconsin edition was created, I'm surprised that that edition didn't also include at least Quad Cities stations and maybe some Cedar Rapids-Waterloo to cover all of northern Illinois (unless areas of far NW IL within the Quad Cities DMA got Western Illinois edition with QC's, Peoria/Bloomington, Quincy, Springfield, Kirksville/Ottumwa, etc.).

Dubuque may have had cable by 1956. They had one of the first cable tv systems in the country, since the reception in the city is poor.
