Parents group demanding cancellation of Roseanne

Roseanne doesn't even premiere until March 27th and a parents group called "One Million Moms" is demanding the show be canceled. According to a click bait article I read on Facebook it's because of one of Roseanne's grandchildren on the show will be gender-fluid.

God - people like that are just disgusting...I mean blue-nosed homophobic censorship fascists, not gender-fluid people, who actually exist in the real world, you morons. They aren't just a fictional invention created by liberals to pervert our good Christian "sis-gender" children.

I always recommend to people like this that they exercise "remote censorship." That is - to use their remote controls to NOT watch the offending program, and leave the rest of us the F alone.

Sorry...I think my blood pressure has returned to normal. Rant over.

What What??

Wait didn't Roseanne supposedly try to portray Family values the best way they can in the 1980's and 1990's the last time they are on the air. Damn what's with these morality experts? Everytime we hear about these people we find out there's a Brother Stair allegation or an Alex Jones type allegations come out for some of these people. But come let people watch the show for themselves on what ever app the show is going to be on.

Surprise it wasn't The PTC as I like to call 1 Million Moms are 10 Moms plus they don't have a million members LOL.

Groups like this "One Million Moms" reminds me of Virginia's Bob Marshall. A republican senator who for the longest time kept getting re-elected only because people really did thought he was a joke and they wanted a laugh. Everything to him was about gays, When asked about the war in Iraq or even the economy he would turn that into a "I am going to bash gay marriage" moment. I think the ONLY thing he ever did was get a DJ fired from a radio station for being gay. Bob rolled tape for weeks on this guy and even contacted the sponsors of his show to say the DJ was gay. Considering the radio station was out of his district this raised red flags. He helped Virginia ban gay marriage in 2006 but he didn't get that ban against same sex roommates even if they were not gay. Last I heard he was beaten at the polls....by a transgender. The joke is over.

I expect the same thing more/less will happen to this group.

Could care less about Rosanne or her 'new' show. It will probably sink like a rock.

It probably will !!! Roseanne to me is one of those people who feel that they MUST be on TV someway. She had her talk show for awhile back in the late 90s but what else had she done ?? She tried talk radio which was a bust. She tried a reality show and nobody was interested. Her new show I think it's safe to say won't last either. Few people care about her.

Roseanne Barr is far and away more annoying than any "gender-fluid" (Whatever that means. Transgender? Can't make up his/her mind?) character she'd have on her show. I still find it amazing that she got 66,000 votes for President in 2012.

But as long as she doesn't sing the National Anthem... :D

Like them or hate them, agree or disagree, 1 Million Moms and the PTC do represent a segment of the population and have a right to be heard, same as anybody else. So rant all you want, they aren't going away any time soon.

And yes, please don't nobody ever let Rosanne do the National Anthem in public again. I won't even call it singing.

The irony about most attempts at censorship is that they only bring more publicity to the thing they are trying to censor. This will probably get Roseanne more viewers than if the Million Morons just left it alone.

I recall that when I was a kid (1960s) racy books would advertise that they were "Banned in Boston." I've never lived in Boston, but apparently in those days, Boston would not allow the sale of books in town that were considered "pornographic." So the publishers used that as a selling point. If it was banned in Boston, it must be good!

Funny... based on what I'd heard about this revival, and on Roseanne's political stances as of late, I was expecting the complaints to come from the other side. I guess this show might prove to be an equal-opportunity offender.

Dang I never heard of "Banned in Boston" before. Everytime I hear of a place pushing for a show or movie to be banned or stuff like that its always in a state like Alabama or Mississippi the "Bible Belt States" and yes its always when we find out about the people calling for a ban its either being replaced by a "Must Run" by the affiliate being pressure to enforce this ban. I remember a decade ago "Saving Private Ryan" was banned from TV in some parts of the country for some reason though even though the network was airing this as a Veterans Day special. Note San Francisco and Los Angeles were not affected by the ban but other places were though.

I didn't say that the didn't have the right to be heard. Even Nazis and racists have a right to be heard - but I also have a right to express my opinion that they are reprehensible people.

Well, yes and no. First, the OP's subject is misleading. According to all of the articles I've read, the One Million Moms group is calling for a boycott of the show, not demanding cancellation. In other words, they are making like-minded people aware of the subject matter that they consider objectionable, and urging them to not watch the show. Sure, they would love to see the show canceled and I'm sure they will collect all of the boycott pledges that they receive and provide them to both the studio and sponsors in an effort to make them see that the show will be a money loser, but that is the very nature of a boycott, and boycotts have been used by advocates of all stripes and persuasions to attempt to effect change. Nothing subversive there.

I do agree that publicizing one's objections to something can make it more enticing to the general public, especially to those opposed to the ones objecting. We saw that happen with the movie, "The Last Temptation of Christ", which I am told was a mediocre movie at best, but became a blockbuster due to publicity against it stirring up curious people to see the movie. That's not what's happening here, however. The boycott was announced on the One Million Moms Facebook page on September 14, and last appeared on their webpage on October 3. Yet we're hearing about it just now? Not exactly what I would call publicizing. Actually, most of the publicity came from news media outlets, especially from those opposed to One Million Moms' agenda. So they actually magnified the boycott by hyperventilating about it. Now that's irony!

Myself, I don't need to be urged to boycott the show. I find Roseanne Barr to be a disgusting person, and for that reason alone, I would not tune in.

As for your right to express your opinion, my exact words were, "So rant all you want...". In other words, have at it, knock yourself out, go ahead and express. It won't mean one iota to One Million Moms. I must say, however, that the original post and the rant did draw my attention to the matter. Ironic.

Is it possible you meant "The Passion of the Christ"? "The Last Temptation of Christ (1988)" barely broke even at the U.S. box office (a bit over $7M according to IMDB) and is not rated particularly high. "The Passion of the Christ" was "adopted" by all sorts of religious groups who persuaded their "customers" to go see it.

I remember "banned in Boston" !! You know I wonder if Roseanne got in touch with One Million Moms behind the scenes trying to stur things up to create PR for this show ?? Sounds weird but I used to work in radio and I can't begin to tell ya about DJs who would write letters to the paper ( under assumed name ) or sign up for fake emails to post say on DCRTV.com and to bash themselves hoping for people to talk about them. For example I knew a guy named Warren who was an evening DJ at my radio station. One day a letter appeared in our local paper by "Vicki Lawrence" saying that Warren was a bad influence for her kids and Warren should be taken off the air, etc..etc.. Well "Vicki Lawrence" was actually Warren !! He admitted to it !! Well it worked for him as he went to do morning drive at our competitor.

I don't think "Last Temptation" ever played in my area. "Passion," though, packed them in and, as you say, was a film many pastors and ministers made a must-see for their flocks. I'm Jewish, but I went to a showing just to see what all the fuss was about. What I remember most was all the crying in the theater during those brutal scenes in which Jesus is being flogged. And I found the film well made and not offensive in the least. I've read the NT and that's pretty much the story it tells.
