DX Alert!! New station on New Year's Eve 2017

This should be heard coast-to-coast, they left their daytime power on!

1030 - WCTS Maplewood, MN; fair to good over KTWO with end of Lamplighter Theater at 1859 PT 12/31/17, later a partial TOH ID '...Minneapolis-St. Paul', confirmed bible passage at 1901 PT per webstream. NEW #752, most likely 50KW at 1,333 miles! They can't be on 4000w night power, they're tearing up KTWO at times. I recorded it and will share soon, not sure if tonight or tomorrow. Go get 'em!

I'm in Vallejo right now housesitting

I only took my Sony ICF-S10 MKII and my Sony WM-FX10 Walkman

But I only here Spanish Blasting in on 1030

I'll try for them tonight. But with a local on 1030 two miles away and WBZ still strong with the local nulled, I'm not exactly optimistic about hearing it. If I aim the radio at the twin cities, I'm also aiming it at the local (WNVR).

I am, however, familiar with WTCS. Their 50 killowatts produces a good daytime signal....especially to the west and south where the ground conductivity is much better than it is to the north and east. They also get out fairly well to the west on their night power/pattern. I spent a night in Chamberlain South Dakota the summer before last, and WTCS had a steady listenable signal in my hotel room.

I have a Sony WM-FX101 -- maybe a slightly later similar model. I used to DX with it all the time, using a loop. Awesome sounding headset radio.

In addition to WCTS, conditions were superb last night. Other logs:

540 - unid with sports talk on either the Chargers or Broncos Radio Network. No local ID. Tried for KNMX confirmation and they were negative on both NFL teams, same with XESURF.
700 KALL UT w/ 'ESPN 700' ID and Utah local ads at 1758 PT 12/31.
860 CBKF-2 Saskatoon w/ lively French talk parallel to 690 CBKF-1 Gravelbourg. Fair in jumble. Really want a CJBC confirmation, but I'm not sure if they are simulcast with Saskatoon or what.
740 KVOX Fargo, ND '740thefan.com' at 1817 PT, on top
780 WBBM strong as always, traffic report sponsored by the 'Diabetic Help Line'! Reporter even gave the 800 number. Very weak KCEG under with classic country, with KKOH nulled.
720 KFIR Sweet Home OR left day power on last night, they were overwhelming KDWN with CBS Sports and local IDs, later airing Coast to Coast.
760 KDSP Denver 'Orange & Blue 760', 1000w
870 WWL New Orleans, commercial for local lawyer with 504 area code
900 XEW Mexico City HUGE to stream, The Who's 'Won't Get Fooled Again'. They were almost S9 the night before...unreal to say the least!
1060 KDUS Tempe AZ 'NBC Sports Radio and the NBC Sports app' - 500w at over 1000 miles, nulling out CKMX. A few minutes later, XEEP popped up with a new age instrumental // stream. Too bad KYW wasn't mixing!
1530 WCKY Cincinnati OH w/ ESPN programming and later Brother Stair, practically right under KFBK! This has gotten more common with the loop and booster.
1660 someone with CBS Sports under KQWB when KBRE was weak. Airing After Hours with Amy Lawrence. Suspect KWOD Kansas City but no ID.
1650 KCNZ IA w/ Amy Lawrence parallel to KNBR...rare! Weak under KBJD
1630 UNID w/ Top 40 music under KRND had to be KCJJ Iowa City, but no confirmation. Relog anyways.
1670 After Hours with Amy Lawrence, so WOZN Madison, WI! Second time ever! Fair signal while it lasted.
1600 unid with ESPN suspect KEPN Denver (but could have been KGYM as well based on Iowa condx), later heard a commercial for an Italian restaurant on 320 ??? Street, mentioned 'fresh cod' on the menu and so on. Could just be KOHI on 12w, but can't rule out anything to the east, like KGYM, WRPN or something else.
1620 Radio Rebelde Cuba with tropical music, on top of the jumble at times around 11:30pm PT
1250 weak country under KKDZ then 'KIKC' calls, heard at 3:10am PT 1/1/18. So Forsyth, MT, possibly on 132w night power. Relog from 2014.

<<<1620 Radio Rebelde Cuba with tropical music>>> I didn't know Cuba now has stations in the X-band. Imagine picking up Cuba in Central Washington. And there's a 1620 in Reston WA, so you got Cuba over a Seattle-area station.

<<<900 XEW Mexico City HUGE to stream, The Who's 'Won't Get Fooled Again'>>> XEW is 250,000 watts, the most powerful AM station in North America. Yet I've never heard it in the East, even when I'm in Florida. In the Northeast, it's always 900 CHML Hamilton. And who would guess XEW would be playing The Who?

<<<1530 WCKY Cincinnati OH w/ ESPN programming and later Brother Stair, practically right under KFBK!>>> That's your furthest-east American station. Amazing in Central Washington, you can null out KFBK Sacramento to catch an EST station.

I thought DavidEduardo said that XEW had gone down to lower power (like 50kw)? They still come in from time to time.
WCKY is in Eastern time, but I've heard WGY 810, KDKA 1020, and (get this) WBCN 1660 Charlotte! I haven't heard the 1660 since they flipped from CBS Sports to rock music.

Rebelde on 1180 kHz has made it to Western Washington several times, FWIW. I caught it on an unaided Realistic TRF once, and heard it a couple more times -- this was two years ago or so.

1620 KYIZ in Renton is a splattermaster in parts of the Seattle metro. They even put out a spur on 1220 on all of my radios. Trying to DX 1610 and 1630 is dicey... 1620 is impossible unless KYIZ's computer is acting up and letting in silent periods (happened once). WCKY is audible in Seattle if KFBK is nulled... only in good conditions, and the null is a loose one, as KFBK has a pretty good signal up here.

XEW 900 makes rare appearances. CKBI Saskatchewan predominates, with a sports station in Wenatchee, WA competing most evenings, and sometimes KBIF California pokes through with Asian programming. When I've heard XEW it's just been fadeups and then fadeouts.... usually not present over much of the DX session.

To close the loop on this earlier post of mine....

I've been on 1030 several nights since I wrote the above. All WNVR. WBZ emerges with WNVR nullef. No trace of WCTS. So it would seem that things are back to "normal" on this channel.

1620 is (most of the time) a mess of KYIZ, KSMH Sacramento and Radio Rebelde in Cuba. These three stations screw up opportunities for other 1620s in the east. I heard WTAW TX once a couple years ago. Yet KOZN Bellevue, NE is one of my most-wanted X-Band stations. I hear KQWB every night on 1660 but KOZN never shows up on their 1000w night power.
