98.9 Ratings

I do remember in November 2015 they were branded as "Warm 98.9" and played Christmas music thru Christmas Day and then AC for 1 week after that before flipping to 99X / alternative. Their ratings climbed to a full 1.0 share - no doubt due to the holiday tunes. As it turned out, the AC / "Warm" format was merely a decoy as they were keeping the 99X launch a secret. But still...1.0 for a translator was pretty good. This fact alone had me wondering why no other station has attempted to take on 98.5 with an AC / soft AC format.

98.9 is now 1.2 which is why I am asking
Yeah I see that now; the December numbers were just posted. A 1.2 might be as high as I have ever seen on a translator. Maybe now is the time for 99X to move their format to a stronger signal. With a 1.2, they are definitely doing something right.

Also of note on the December PPM - B98.5 is as low as I have seen in a good while, which is surprising with the Christmas music mixed in. As expected, FISH posted well, climbing to #2 no doubt to holiday tunes as well.

I’ve noticed 99X has broadened their playlist to compete with Alt 105.7. I heard some 90s stuff mixed in the other day. When they first launched, they only played newer Alt-40 songs. This is why I think their ratings are increasing and Alt 105.7 has taken a hit.

I'm guessing that Fish and B compete for the same slice of the audience, with B being the softest (and I use that term loosely) of the secular ACs. In other words, Fish's gain is B's loss, and may reverse now that the holidays are over. What happened last year?

However, B has been the weak sister over at Digital White Columns for several books now, so I'm wondering if the AC market is overserved. OTOH, Fish has been doing well outside of the holiday period generally. Is something "wrong" with B?

Umm, either they changed HD channels or the PPMs are listing the wrong station. OG should have a 1.2 and 99X should have a 0.5

I followed the link to the station in AllAccess and the HD-3 link goes to OG.

Chrocket - I think your comments may in fact might not be correct. Current ratings for both HD2 stations are at 1.3 One goes to Q100 station and the other goes to 99X. So whichever is the one for 99X, it's at 1.3 which means I would assume 98.9 at a 1.3 share is the highest ever on this frequency as a translator. Anyone have any further knowledge about this? Neither of the links go to the OG station btw.

One more thing, is it irony or could it be a misprint that for the past two periods, both OG and 99X have the same share? Hmm... Capture.jpg

I use radio online. See link below. I'm bias, I am pulling for 99x. So much better than Alt 105.7 and the playlist gets changed up often which I also like.

Don't look now, but TOSOTR is getting a 0.1 share. Not bad for that tiny 75W signal. Same as WGKA and WGST.

TOSOTR translator is still off air. Been off for about a month. Anyone know what’s going on there?

I really wish they would resurrect that CP to move to the cell tower behind the Hampton Inn near Discover Mills, on Ptree Ridge. That CP, which involved a frequency change, would have enabled them to go to a full 250W, non-directional.

Since they're now getting ratings, should they now try and sell some spots? I wonder how their music programming compares to the Glads and the G-Braves, I mean Strippers, I mean Stripers PXP in the ratings. Their Glads coverage has (ahem) network spots; will Cox have to make good on those? Who is paying whom for the PXP coverage?

My only concern would be the JoyFM translator running on 92.5. Comes in fairly decent up there in Duluth. I worry it would fight with W249CK. But it would be much better than what we get right now from 97.7. I do enjoy now hearing 97.7 BigFM out of Milledgeville. However, I would much rather hear TOSOTR.
