iHeartMedia Launches Alt 97.5 Austin

I noticed this when I was listening to Pride Radio on the iHeartRadio app and heard "KPEZ-HD2 Austin" during the TOTH ID. It's surprising that iHeartMedia brought back the format to the market, considering they flipped their previous Alternative station last May to Spanish CHR, although this was most likely done to give an Austin clearance for The Woody Show.

It's great though Austin has another Alternative. Wish it would have went to San Antonio though we need one.

I’m sure San Antonio will sort of get an alternative station when KROX 101x completes its transmitter move to Buda; at that site it will easily cover northern San Antonio.

Nothing so far. The last FCC update was 3/9/17 when the construction permit was granted. So almost a year since the last update. When I drove by the transmitter site friday, there were two guys on the tower, but not sure if they were working on the move or not.

What is interesting is that the 60 dBu service contour reaches as far as O’Connor road in San Antonio, so when this is completed, I’m anxious to see how far south an Austin station can go into San Antonio.

Although I'm not in the market (and haven't visited Austin yet,) I always enjoyed listening to Pride Radio Austin on the iHeart app. I know there's a generic Pride Radio, too, but the Austin version seemed better to me. At one point, I think they might have voice tracked a different version than the national feed, too.

Pride radio is on 102.3 HD-2
