K248BD relaunches on 99.9

Found Spanish language religious programming on 99.9 near my Cy-Fair location...heard a liner for Radio Vida, and a quick check of KRCM 1380 confirmed it was the same programming. This is the translator that was originally on 97.5 for a few days last year severely interfering with KFNC in NW Harris County.

Transmitter appears to be at the same location, and the signal is fairly decent at my house, but driving around I can hear KSHN trying to punch through at times.

While on the subject of 99.9: Supposedly KNJC-LP in the Missouri City area is on the air. Anyone hearing it?

KSHN FM 99.9 "Shine-All-9" remains dominant in Spring at I-45 and Louetta. KSHN is licensed to Liberty, TX but the tower is a good 15 miles east toward Beaumont. The KSHN oldies selection is unique.

Getting Spanish religious music loud and clear at my home off of 2920 and Kuykendahl... oddly enough, I am getting “KSHN-FM” on the RDS still. Station is bleeding over KVST, causing strong interference.

Now I know what all the complaints are about out there. Thanks for the heads up.

The audio on the 99.9 translator is badly overdriven; rough to listen to.

Indeed it is. Just tried picking up KVST using a Sangean WR22 in my office at 45/Louetta, K248BD is still bleeding over 99.7 quite a bit. 99.9 is clear as a bell with overmodulated audio, and still shows KSHN-FM on RDS.

Now I know what all the complaints are about out there. Thanks for the heads up.

Dade, let me know if I can do anything to help get the translator shut down... :) I listen to KVST quite a bit down here in Spring over the air, since the internet stream is very low bitrate and hard to listen to.

Nothing to do. Move on and deal with the stream. The translator is legal.

COL has no bearing. The FCC has ruled several times when listeners provide statements about being unable to hear the station. Full power stations are primary. Translators are secondary and secondary services must protect primary services. I gather the listeners here are in northern Harris County, outside Houston proper. There was a case in Kentucky where listeners were fairly distant from the station. The FCC sided for the listeners. The FCC tends to place importance on who was there first.

That's not what the rule book says. The good folks at KVST should (and can) force it to power down or move.

While the station can not "force" such action, if they encourage the listeners who lost service to write to the FCC to complain, the FCC will review and if the complaints are valid, they will have the new facility lower its power, directionalize or otherwise mitigate the interference.

They should have absolutely no issues with gathering names. They have a very loyal listener base.

Filling a complaint, along with complaints from listeners will very likely result with the FCC taking action.

Whether the translators play by the rules is a whole different story (as seen by some translators in the region). FCC enforcement hasn't been the same since the last economic downturn.

Hi Everyone, Thanks for all your help, Yes tonight we are very much aware of the interference to KVST 99.7 and also KSHN 99.9, Please do me a favor and this is from both radio stations not just myself at KVST. If you are in an area where you can not not pick us any longer please send letters to me for both KVST 99.7 FM and KSHN 99.9 FM. I am also aware that as of tonight there is dead air on 99.9 causing a blank spot on the band in Parts of Houston knocking KSHN off all together and up I 45 North causing interference to both radio stations. Best Regards Dade Moore KVST 99.7 FM [email protected]
