Pat McCrory on WBT Part 2

After the other thread, I thought, ok, maybe it's me being too critical after too little time, let's see how he does and if he improves.
It's gotten worse, time for WBT to pull the plug on this embarrassment and maybe give the morning show producers an hour to talk (like a post-show).
McCrory is an idiot. Anyone he doesn't agree with gets a mocking name (Jeff Bezos is now Bozo).
I've never listened to a person who knows everything about everything who knows nothing be a bigger moron while professing to know everything.
He spent at least 15 minutes saying the Observer was wrong to write any story about Marty Hurney. Of course, he made it all about him in explaining why, while Bo had to step in and explain to McCrory it IS a story because the NFL is investigating. Then it turned into, at least 15 times, WHO LEAKED IT?

Entercom, back Keith Larson and finally admit you screwed up.

If I recall, Pat McCrory previously had a program on WBT back before he ran for Governor. So I can understand the topical reasons for having a former long serving Charlotte Mayor and NC Governor provide political commentary or host a talk show. And since he may lack certain show business talent for radio, they have Bo Thompson serve as the moderator. So in theory, the Pat McCrory Show may seem like a good programming move. And there are likely lots of local listeners who like Pat McCrory, although his popularity may have diminished since the HB2 debacle. While I disagreed with certain aspects of the bathroom bill, it was badly mishandled from a business standpoint and McCrory should have adopted a more moderate, centrist approach and achieved some sort of compromise before all the boycotts that became a national embarassment.

But I am not sure why Entercom chose to replace Keith Larson. Perhaps it was more about salary, as previously Greater Media had a contentious contract negotiation and salary renewal. And more recently, I don't know why they replaced Scott Fitzgerald and brought back Vince Coakley. I liked the Scott Fitzgerald program. But perhaps it is all about ratings. And Vince Coakley is now simulcast on both the Entercom Charlotte and Upstate SC stations.

First, I crossed party lines to vote for McCrory for Governor in the hopes that he would do something to benefit the Charlotte metro. He did nothing so I didn't vote for him again.

Second, I think whatever WBT does with their line up they should pick someone good and stay with them. Changing hosts all the time doesn't give anyone time to build listener loyalty.

All of these changes since Keith Larson are due to Entercom. But looks like now they want to go with Vince Coakley. So perhaps he can rebuild an audience since originally being dropped before by Greater Media. And I suppose it is also cost savings for talent since he is also simulcast on the Upstate SC stations. As for McCrory, we'll have to see long term if the ratings hold out.

It's gotten worse

The man cannot talk, constantly mispronounces words.
Also, for them to sell the show as free of talking points is laughable and borderline delusional.
Mike, I agree with you that you need to stay with something to build it.
But to be blunt, this should have been a non-starter. It's unlistenable.
I'm not the biggest fan of the morning news either, it's a competition who can make more one-liners in a 30-second pod, and none of them are funny.
That said, Bo Thompson should have tire tracks over his back as much at McCrory runs over him.
Vince isn't as bad he was last time he was here, I guess he realized a little towards center won't hurt.
But bottom line, they had a good thing going with Keith Larson and they blew it.

I find Charlotte's Morning News unlistenable with all the commercials they pack in. The station has changed ownership about 3 times as of late from Jefferson Pilot to Lincoln Financial to Greater Media and now Entercom. Each time losing a little of the special luster it had. Actually it started toward the end of JP's ownership. It sounds like let's milk this cash cow for all she's got.

Well she doesn't have much milk left. There was a time when WBT was Charlotte, now it's just another radio station, down in the noise on a long ratings downward slide...

There's most likely a connection between the ratings and the number of commercials. David Field has said he wants to find ways to cut the spotload, but that only works if it's a format that advertisers want. I have a feeling we're seeing the final years of news/talk as a viable format on commercial radio. It can only sustain on non-commercial radio.
