Gainesville Notes

One question answered--Marc is moving "I am Country" from 101.7 to 106.9. I wonder if they will put something new on 94.1/980?

Another question answered--94.1 will remain country so no new format there. 106.9 is now I am Country and they are advertising the "grand opening" of the new 106.9 on September 1. Rebranding?

Does anyone know if Jacksonville's 89.9 WJCT is heard from there?

Probably not well as you'll be 65-75 miles away depending on where you live. You can listen on the Tunein app or checkout WUFT-FM (89.1) which has a similar format.

Oh I know about WUFT. But considering Gainesville is like an hour and change from Jax, that's why I was asking that.

The "grand opening" for 106.9 on September 1 was a bust. I don't hear anything different except they no longer mention 94.1 for some reason. The one good thing is the Ward Scott talk show is now on just 94.1/980 and the music continues on 106.9. I never understood a talk show from 7-9AM on a music station.

To bring an update, from where I now live, I can receive 89.9 WJCT but barely. I can't get the HD2 and HD3 signals but somehow, 89.9 WJCT barely goes through.

For anyone reading this, please let me know of Gainesville radio news and notes since I have much of a better looking eye on the market's TV than radio and its good to know about radio here since I live here now.

100.9 went all Christmas music (North Pole Radio) over the weekend. It seems a little early but...

They are hyping a return to classic hits on December 26th so guess no format change in the offing.

There were notices around that 104.9 was going '80's on March 19th. So far, they are still rebroadcasting 92.9 from Ocala. There were power outages on the 19th from storms so thought that might have caused a delay but guess the plans didn't work out.

The Central Florida Radio site has a link to the Gainesville Sun story about the upcoming demolition of the old WGGG building on Waldo Road. I'm guessing a seventy year old building that has been empty for years is in pretty bad shape. They took the tower down a year or so ago and put up a new cell tower at the rear of the property.

Yep... WMFQ is on 92.9 and on 104.9 WYGC as of March 28th. No 80s hits here yet.

Marc Radio is adding a local morning show to I am Country 106.9 starting Monday. This is great sounding station that is not very well known so hope they do some promotion. I don't know what kind of automation they have but you rarely if ever hear a stumble.

The Spring ratings for Gainesville-Ocala are posted at Radio Online and no big changes except...WAJD-AM is in the ratings for the first time in decades! Of course, it is the smooth jazz format on their 98.9 translator getting the ratings as 1390 is usually off the air.
