According to Wikipedia, "the song became an international hit upon being remixed in a more uo-tempo fashion by Robin Schulz with Schulz's remix topping the charts in multiple countries. Genre: soft rock and R&B. Why on ALT format station

We play it occasionally, and we are Hot AC. ALT has now evolved into many genres.

I understand that, but it makes me wonder how does the core alternative audience feel about that?

The audience isn’t the same as the audience make up that was listening 10 years ago. I would even say it’s different from WXRP days. The pop element is (I’m guessing) helping to attract females who like pop, but not necessarily CHR OR Hot AC.

However, this is a different focus from what they did when they launched the station in December, right? I think I predicted they'd start to shift the format towards something more commercial as we approached the spring book.

Just now I remember that fresh 102.7 sound like ALT rock format in 2016

Today's 18-34s don't think in terms of 'rock' and 'pop' nearly as much as older audiences. And the word "Rock" is nowhere in the name or positioning of the station.

They were playing Halsey and Calvin Harris when they launched, so no, not really.

I have heard Biggie on there "Hypnotize", so they play a few select titles to make the station more mass appeal for NYC. It's smart, they keep true to their core but sprinkle a few of these songs that are a huge stretch for being "alt" but are not too ridiculous. They all are songs that their target demos in NYC like so hey if this is what it takes to keep this format viable for NYC I'm all for it. Hey, they aren't like a certain.....that doesn't care about ratings, just has an agenda and wont program away from it no matter how low the ratings go.

Have you listened to KVIL ALT103.7 in Dallas? Certainly Alternative is not what it used to be. I have heard Childish Gambino- Red Bone, Calvin Harris- Feels so Close, Passenger- Let her go, Halsey- Bad at Love. Then you hear your 90’s Pearl Jam, Nirvana, and Offspring ect what really threw me for a loop is that heard new music from Theory of a Deadman - Rx and heard Zombie by Bad Wolves which both songs are only showing on Active Rock charts.
