Can someone explain something to me, WRME is on 87.7, most FM receivers do not go lower than 87.9, I have a rare HD receiver that can dial in 87.5 and 87.7 but nothing is ever on those three frequencies. I checked out the FCC database and Radio Locator, this station does not exist in their databanks. So what I am asking is how do you listen to it, I am told it does exist, I am not from the area so I cannot comprehend this.

Yes it is, I listen to it on the radio, as I have radios that go that far, I often here commercials on their station promoting listeners if they are thinking of buying a new car, to test drive it to see if Me TGV FM comes in. They are also available on some cable companies as well. The bad news they have never had a live stream where you can stream on the internet. You can go to their website http://www.metvfm.com , and you can send them a message with any questions or comments, and their program director Rick O'Dell should get back to you asap.

It's a Franken-FM, the term we use for low power TV stations on channel 6 that exist solely for the purpose of transmitting audio on 87.7 MHz. They still trasnmit an analog signal, and if you were to tune it in on your TV, you'd probably see a static slide or some superfluous image.

Are such operations still due to be legislated out of business at some point by the elimination of analog for LPTVs, or has that been shelved by the FCC?

It's not the exact feed as they are technically a tv station and are not permitted to stream unless they can accurately make sure the viewer/listener is within 150 miles from the transmitter. On Comcast in the Chicagoland area they are on channel 877.

On tv they broadcast a traffic map of the expressways. (the same map was used when the station was smooth 87.7)

Yes, so far it's July 13, 2021. It was originally supposed to be back in 9/2015. I'm glad it wasn't because it's one of my favorite stations. Even though it's low power, I can still get it in my car out in Indiana passed Valparaiso. I was amazed the first time I made the drive. I suspect because there are no adjacent or co-channel stations....

Not so low powered

It may be low power TV by class, but the aural carrier power of WRME is about the same as visual. Normally, analog TV has a 10% aural to visual carrier ratio. However, a loophole in the rules doesn't distinguish that fact of the old NTSC standard. So they're a peer to what would be a Class B1 of the full power class B FM stations downtown.

I'm not a fan of Franken-FM's and find the abuse of the rules simply appalling.

Now that the format is proven successful, Norm should buy Q101 and go hog wild there. And leave the !@#$%^&* holding that license in the wind.

It has successfully garnered a big audience of 55+ listeners in a very transactional market. While they are running a fair number of spots, we don't know the rates and so it is a bit premature to say the station is successful.

I am nowhere near their transmitter...in fact I am about 2 states away from Chicago but I am listening to the stream on their website. Great songs, some I haven't heard in decades If it's not "technically" the station they put out OTA, so what? What do they do, change one song here and there from what they put out OTA? No commercials, no cross fading, just play the music till the song ends or fades away and start the next one. So far all I've heard is a liner ID-ing themselves as ME TV Music and right back into the tunes. Basically just a jukebox but it works for me.
