Ben Shapiro to have a show on Westwood One

https://news.****************/cgi-bin/rol.exe/headline_id=n35332

Yes its going from podcast to OTA Radio for 5 markets.

Westwood One is expanding distribution of "The Ben Shapiro Show" podcast, which has over 15 million downloads each month. Launching on April 2, the program will be syndicated across U.S. markets including WABC-AM/New York, plus KABC/Los Angeles, WLS/Chicago, WMAL/Washington DC, WYAY/Atlanta, KTTH/Seattle and KKAT/Salt Lake City. Weeks before the show launches, advertising time for Shapiro's program is already sold out.
"The Daily Wire and Westwood One are doing something unprecedented," said Shapiro. "And we're doing it in 5 of the top 10 DMA markets in the country, which is amazing in and of itself -- no show launches with this constellation of stations. We already have an enormous digital audience, and we can't wait to extend that audience to more traditional platforms."
"Ben's wildly successful podcast delivers a fresh voice to a new generation of millennial conservatives and we are excited to take this provocative narrative to syndicated radio," said Suzanne Grimes, EVP Marketing, Cumulus Media and President, Westwood One. "As America's largest audio network, we are putting our full weight behind the show to connect Ben with millions of new listeners across podcast, radio, and streaming platforms."

The reporter should've noted the timeslot for each station. I wonder if he'll be carried live, or tape delayed? Either way, his profile is rising and being able to go to broadcast, and get paid for it, is good for him.

As should the stations! With all the lip service they give to advertisers about offering radio as a part of a magical multi-media mix, they can't even update their own websites in a timely manner.

Agreed! Maybe podcasting will become the "bench" for new talent that's been missing from broadcast radio for some time.

From what I see, the story was a press release. The press release didn't have airtimes at each station. So the OP doesn't know. The originator of the story, the syndicator, should have itemized station, time, city, and dial location.

I've listened to Ben for years. He said on Thursday that he is still going to record his show in the morning. He said that if a big story broke later in the day he will update his morning program.

I just listened to the WABC 5-6 pm stream of his show. Have to say I'm underwhelmed.

Does he always talk that fast? I read him quoted as saying he plans to fit 3 hours of content into a one hour show so maybe that's the problem. As for topics, they were the same as what's already been rehashed elsewhere and I didn't hear a unique perspective.

At around 5:45 I switched back to Larry O'Connor on WMAL. Relaxed, having fun, not trying to blast through everything.

But I'll give Shapiro the benefit of a doubt. Maybe he needs time to get it together.

I think he'll adjust. He'll probably get more coaching now than he did when from his podcast.

He has done regular talk radio recently. He was doing a 3 hour show on Salem in LA 2 years ago while doing a 3 hour show in Seattle at the same time. He used to do 2 days a week in Seattle until his daughter needed heart surgery, so he dropped the Seattle show. A few months later Salem dropped him and Elisha Krauss from "The Morning Answer" show in LA. He expanded his Daily Wire podcast after that.

I didn't know he had a daughter. I thought he was dating Michelle Fields when she had her kerfuffle with Corey Lewandowski?

He has been married for 10 years. His wife is an MD. His daughter is 4 and his son is 2. He lives Kosher too. His daughter had the same heart surgery with the same doctor that Jimmy Kimmel's kid had done last year. Michelle Fields worked for him at one time. (Truth Revolt or The Daily Wire) Small world.

They both worked for Breitbart at the time of Fields' incident with Lewandowski. They both quit Brietbart when, they claim, the company didn't support her.

Thanks! I forgot that Ben quit Breitbart. He mentioned on one of his shows that he clashed with Bannon a lot.

Agreed. I remember going to a talk radio conference in 2010 or 2011 when some of the bigwigs in the industry were bemoaning "the lack of bench" in talk radio. "Where are we going to find the next Rush or Hannity???" And I was just sitting in the audience thinking, "Have you ever heard of PODCASTING?"
:)
