Another Rimshot Inches Closer

This time it's KIKO-FM 95~Five, gaining Class C status and increasing pow-pow-power to 34kw. https://radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/patg?id=KIKO-FM&s=C They were granted the change of status at the expense of Vic Michael's application to launch 96~Three in Star Valley (Payson). Format is worn out oldies.

Speaking of old and worn out, ever been to Claypool? YIKES!!

This time it's KIKO-FM 96~Five, gaining Class C status and increasing pow-pow-power to 34kw.

Fixed. 95.5 is still The Mountain, where we play everything we feel like playing. :D

A tip of the fez, KeithE4. 96~Five is KIKO-FM. The teacher strike here at the Media Hut has me working more than the usual three hours a day!

Knowing John Low, he probably already has it built and ready for the next move. Question is will the oldies remain, or will they move the classic country/gun fanaticism from 1340 to 96.5? I'm sure KRDE wouldn't be happy about that.

How does this effect the translator on 96.5 out of Phoenix, K243BN? As you may recall, KIKO-FM was asking listeners to submit interference complaints against the 96.5 translator, but this was when K243BN was a Spanish language format, not the current K-LOVE format. As long as that translator is around, KIKO-FM won’t be able to get any sort of decent coverage into Phoenix or any points west of Mesa.

Speaking of translators, the new K-LOVE 102.1 (K243BP -> K271CR, escaping 96.5) blew out any chance of receiving KAHM or KFMA here. It's in Pinal County but directional north (especially toward Queen Creek) with a strong stereo signal. When KAHM moves in, that's gonna be fun (and will make CCF lucky they have 101.9). Interestingly, EMF sold K271CR to Vic Michael's Mountain Community Translators last year.

KAHM ain't moving. There's no need of ir now for its new owner.

Oh, yes there is. While the translator is a very good one, the 65 dbu only hits 880,000 persons in a market of 4.4 million. The KAHM signal starts in the northern and northeastern areas of the market right where the translator goes below 60 dbu. KAHM is probably worth another full share point... if not more... to the combo.

I'm quoting from the newspaper article where it was said that, "There will be no changes." That also includes the proposed move. No changes.

Then what was the point of changing COL to Spring Valley if they didn't intend to move the stick to Towers Mtn? All the engineering studies show a move to Towers and a signal that reaches the northern edge of the Valley https://fccdata.org/?appid=1764486&facid=61510 But they're staying Calm as KAHM has until March 2021 to fulfill the authorization.

Newspapers get radio things wrong about 75% of the time... right up there with Wikipedia, but with a longer tradition.

There is, otherwise, no logic to the purchase by the César Chávez organization. They are among the more militant labor organizations, and certainly have about 0% in common with Percy Faith.

The change of the COL was to tempt a buyer who wanted a rimshot signal to the Valley. When the station was sold there were renewable LMAs to keep the formats intact and the buyer already had a translator that did what it needed to do with the 860 signal. If the COL gets changed back to Prescott and the CP dies then perhaps that will be the end of that story. :)

But the translator does not do what "it needed to do" with the translator; the translator and KAHM are complimentary and are intended to get full, if fringy, coverage of the entire Phoenix MSA, particularly the HDHA zones.

Translator at 101~Nine, KAHM at 102~One...back to back on the dial. A brilliantly executed plan by CCF to gain a commercial band presence after they were told they couldn't be commercial on non-commercial 88~Three.

Please remember that both KYCA and KAHM are both being run under LMAs that were agreed to by CCF. The LMAs are renewable and will be renewed thus causing 102.1 to not be available for CCF programming.

And with that I am done replying to this thread. :)

As long as payments are made...but if not, guess what'll happen? Yup.

All this kibitzing about KAHM takes our attention away from the fate of 88~Nine. Now every 15 seconds a reminder that Radio Campesina has moved to 101~Nine. Shirley, CCF must be shopping their portion of this shared frequency.

And with that I am done replying to this thread. :)

As the song goes "..You can check out any time you like, But you can never leave!' Just axe us...we've been trying to leave for almost 18 years, but the lure of preserving our alleged legacy keeps Los Buckeye Boyz hangin' around.

The KAHM LMA doesn't appear to specify where the beautiful music programming will appear, i.e. main channel vs. digital subchannel, or translator for that matter. I can't imagine CCF bought the station without any intent of actually using it.

I think many of us of a more 'liberal' persuasion are seriously disappointed in CCF for ignoring our pleas to drop the hate talk programming on KYCA. This was especially concerning to some of us after one of their high profile local talk show hosts promoted on-air the killing of undocumented workers at the border...and selling their various body parts for profit. Unfortunately in my experience, some marginal listeners DO take this hate talk as a sign that it's OK to actively harass the people they don't like, if not actually kill them. This vicious programming is NOT consistent with CCF's own mission statement.

I'm under the impression that CCF doesn't want KYCA. They just had to take it as part of a deal to buy KAHM. Once Prescott Radio (the KYCA management) finds the funds to buy the license, they will do so. Or, maybe CCF will turn around and sell to Sanford Cohen.

This just in, " We've always been calm and we always will be. "
Quite a few new advertisers from the Fun City, Payonia, and NW Valley
areas. They say, "We're here today and were here to stay, KAHM
FM 102.1 Preskitt."

Same thought occurred to Los Buckeye Boyz. Prescott Radio purchases KYCA and it's translator, and that becomes KAHM at 103~Five and 14~Ninety. 102~One then becomes KNAI~FM.
