WAMI move to Maplesville scrubbed

The plan to move WAMI from Opp to Maplesville has been scrubbed (WHAT a surprise... :/). WAMI will remain in Opp at 880 AM with 50 watts, daytime only. Not sure what, if anything will happen with the new FM translator (W292FO at 106.3 FM) in Calera that was scheduled to rebroadcast WAMI in Maplesville, as the AM will not be here as the originating station for the translator. The only other station Brantley/Reynolds has in the area (other than WHPH) is WKLF in Clanton, which could be used (I suppose) as the originating station for 106.3 since WAMI was supposed to co-locate its transmitter with WKLF. Whether that'll happen... lol

Info on WAMI below:

Now for the reason why WAMI AM is staying in Opp for now.

EXTRAORDINARY CIRCUMSTANCES

THE WAMI CONSTRUCTION PERMIT FOR 880 KHZ AT MAPLESVILLE, AL REQUIRES THE STATION TO BE DIPLEXED WITH WKLF(AM), 1000 KHZ, CLANTON, AL. THE MANUFACTURER/DESIGNER OF THE DIPLEXER HAS CONCERNS OVER HIS ABILITY TO DESIGN A SYSTEM THAT WILL SUFFICIENTLY ISOLATE THE TWO FREQUENCIES, SINCE THEY ARE RELATIVELY CLOSE TO ONE ANOTHER IN THE SPECTRUM. AS SUCH, THE DIPLEXER WILL NOT BE READY FOR USE BY WAMI BEFORE THE STA EXPIRES IN JUNE.

WAMI HEREBY PROPOSES TO RETURN TO ITS LICENSED SITE ON 880 KHZ WITH AN ERP OF 50 WATTS (DAYTIME). THIS ERP WILL CITY-GRADE OVER 90% OF THE CITY OF LICENSE (OPP, AL).

I think you guys are misreading this filing. The STA to remain silent will eventually expire; this is merely filing a new STA to return to air to keep the license active. The CP for the move to Calera is good until 2020, so assuming the diplexer issue is real (and one has been ordered) they still have a couple of years to get it built out. There's even more time on the translator (2021).

Yes, you are correct, Zach; I see that now...it is indeed listed as an STA. I figured it was an app to keep the station in Opp since there is nothing mentioned about their future plans to build out the station/move it to Maplesville. I would not be surprised, however, if the Maplesville AM and Calera FM translator ever comes to fruition, given Brantley/Great South Wireless and their shenanigans in the past.

From what I was told, the issue is being worked on.

Until it's resolved, the station will broadcast from Opp.

P.S. If you're loving the recent adds on WPJN, Pass, you can thank me. I made them possible. As of this post, I serve as the resident music director for Praise 89.3 FM Clanton and Family Gospel Time on SuperMix 100.3 FM Goshen. Now helping Mr. Chris and his crew keep the Christian and Gospel playlists updated. More new music is coming soon, to both stations. Stay tuned!
