Austin's Fiesta 97.1 Sold

GHS just filed to sell Fiesta 97.1 (K246BD) to Sinclair Telecable for $903,000. I believe that price would put this deal in top five translator transactions of all time.

Sinclair is the 49% owner of the Emmis Austin partnership. Does this solo deal suggest a forthcoming deal for them to buy out the other 51% from Emmis?

The application states the translator will rebroadcast KGSR. It's a fair guess that they will not continue operating Fiesta and 107.1 La Z.

Anecdotally, I've always found 97.1 to have the best coverage of the Austin translators, followed by 99.7. I wonder if that will continue to be the case.

Wow that's a lot of money hopefully they bring back Hot 93 or Mega on FM.

If you read the article it says the plans are to rebroadcast an HD sub-channel of KGSR. KGSR's HD2 is either Radio Disney or Country (I've seen both listed) and their HD3 is a hard rock/heavy metal format. If KGSR HD2 is indeed Radio Disney, smart money says that's what will air on 97.1.

Next time I go near Austin I'll have to update you all as I have an HD Radio.

The sale has not closed as it does not even have regulatory approval. Unless they do an LMA, there won't be a change for perhaps 90 to 120 days.

But they can move any content to any of their HD channels whenever they want.

With KGSR moved to a tower near downtown Austin, that is a good place to put any HD originations for translators.

The tower KGSR is moving to is in Northwest Austin and not to the tower farm west of downtown. Nonetheless, it will provide improved coverage in the metro area.

I 2 Would Love To Hear Mega Dance On 97.1 Wish They Would Free 102.7 Jack FM Signal As I Thank Thats A Way Better Classic Hits Station
